I’m thrilled to share an update on an initiative run by partners of the World Food Programme#Zimbabwe Country Office that significantly impacts urban communities.
By combining urban cash assistance programme with TOOSE, a gender transformative approach borne out of a joint initiative of Ecorys, Social Development Direct, and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, we’re seeing positive preliminary findings 📊:
🥣 Decreased household-level food insecurity,
💥 Lowered instances of intimate partner violence.
📉 Reduced household stresses, and
👨👩👧👦 Improved household cohesion and communication

On Monday, Hui E! Community Aotearoa Aotearoa will be releasing our latest research about how Māori, community and voluntary groups in Aotearoa have been going over the past 2 years. It's been a labour of love to get this together, to capture and share the important voices of our nation's grassroots, front-line community groups working across the motu.
Across this very diverse sector, groups, organisations, Kaimaihi (including leaders), Mema Poari (board members) and Kaitūao (volunteers) remain “committed to the kaupapa.”
Here's just a sneak peak into some of the key findings:
🗣 The extraordinary collective capability of the sector to adapt to community needs
🗣 Funding as a crosscutting influence on the sector’s collective adaptability, for workforce, for connection, for hauora and wellbeing in the sector, and for Kaimahi, Mema Poari and Kaitūao
🗣 The adaptability of the sector is underpinned by the hauora and wellbeing of the workforce
🗣 Burnout remains a significant risk for Kaimahi and Kaitūao
🗣 Opportunities in regard to funding, workforce and connection are very likely to improve hauora and wellbeing.

In December 2022, I witnessed the power of Global Citizenship in Katwe, Uganda. 💪✨
I embarked on a journey to empower my community with the principles of global citizenship. 🌏📚This resulted in the creation of the Katwe 1 Bulungi Bwansi Group! 🌟 This incredible team has been promoting cleanliness and raising awareness about sanitation, one neighbourhood at a time. 🗑️🏘️ We organize monthly community cleanups that have not only reduced diseases but also created a safer environment for all. 🧼🌿
Our biggest beneficiaries are the children and youth, who now have safe spaces to play and grow. 🤸♀️👦👧 No more unhygienic play areas, no more dirty bottles, and certainly no more injuries from broken glass. 🏞️🍼🚫 However, it doesn't end there! Our regional authorities have complimented this grassroots strategy for its resourcefulness and sustainability.
💡🙌 We are reducing waste and saving money by promoting a culture of personal accountability while also tackling the issues that face our neighbourhood. 🌱💰

DAY 10 #16Days of Activism - Maasai women take leadership in Ngorongoro
With almost 40 per cent of the land designated as protected areas, #Tanzania 🇹🇿 is one of the countries with major tourism revenues in Africa. In the northeast, the Ngorongoro district is the home of the well-known tourist attraction the Ngorongoro Crater and the bordering Serengeti National Park.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area alone receives around USD 30 million a year from tourism. Still, one-third of the population, including #IndigenousPeoples, live in poverty.
📢The Indigenous Maasai community struggles with poverty, hunger and lack of basic human rights. As a consequence, Maasai men are increasingly leaving the area for paid jobs in the cities.
❗ At the end of the day, Maasai women are left alone facing the challenges of securing food and water for their families.
✊ To ensure that their particular demands are heard, the community-based organisation Pastoralist Women Council has assisted the Maasai women in Ngorongoro to get organised and have their own organisation established. It offers legal assistance and runs two committees for women from within the conservation area.
