The idea that civil society organizations should be involved in wealth creation is still confusing to many in the civil society sector, particularly in the Caribbean. The idea and practice of community wealth creation is certainly not new. However, the fact that many still believe that civil society organizations should not make profit or create wealth confirms the extent to which we have been brainwashed by colonial/imperial forces and current elites. As the great Bob Marley said in Redemption Song (Bob Marley and the Wailers): "Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery None but ourselves can free our minds". Community engagement is vital for church growth. According to some studies, 96% of church growth comes through transfer memberships. It's vital to engage with our communities to push back the darkness. Two ways to engage the community: Involvement in local schools - our children's and student ministires are involved in some way weekly in 15+ schools. We regularly connect with those who are unchurched. We serve and show the love of Christ. Find ways to serve your public schools and they ask you to be further involved. Sports - 92% of children by the age of 12 will play some sort of sport. If your church doesn't do recreation then get involved in the local recreation department and use that as a platform for the gospel. Find creative ways to get outside the walls of the church and get involved with those you are trying to reach. Consistent community engagement with the gospel will lead to salvations and ultimately church growth apart from transfer membership. #CommunityEngagement #ChurchGrowth

The Prosserman JCC engages over 1,000 people each day (in some cases, that number could be double!). Let that sink in for a moment.... This could be someone going for a swim, playing pickleball, doing a group class, attending a program for their child or just meeting up with a friend to do a workout together. The list of examples is endless and outside of a concert, or live sporting event, I can't think of another business that's doing the same kind of high-level volume, while also fostering community at the same time.
