Ibi industrial town in AL-Zahra province in Oman. Oman’s Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) has announced the launch of the first phase of Ibri Industrial City in Al Dhahirah Governorate, a strategic location bordering Saudi Arabia and the UAE.  “Al Dhahirah’s strategic location, bordering Saudi Arabia and the UAE, will further support international trade operations. Coupled with its proximity to important hubs like Sohar Port, Khazaen Economic City and Nizwa Industrial City, as well as oil and gas concession areas and raw materials such as metals, marble and copper, the governorate holds immense potential for sustainable economic growth.” The introduction of an industrial city in Al Dhahirah Governorate represents a qualitative leap in manufacturing industries and commercial activities, which will eventually play a role in generating job opportunities and encouraging exports.

Nizwa Industrial City pulls in RO 474 million worth of investments NIZWA: Nizwa Industrial City, affiliated with the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), successfully localised four projects during the first half of 2024, with an investment cost exceeding RO 5.5 million. These projects will occupy an area of 67,000 square metres. Salah bin Nasser al Alawi, Acting Director General of Nizwa Industrial City, stated that the number of projects in the city has reached 173, including 154 operational projects, 13 under construction, and 8 projects for which space has been allocated. Plot occupancy currently stands at 76 per cent of the total developed land area of 3.1 million square metres, out of the total allocation of 7.2 million square metres towards the industrial city. Suez Update 23rd January Today the Suez is totally empty of RoRo ships, which is quite unique considering this strategically important area in the East/West trading corridor. Did you know that last year some 900 voyages (500 Eastbound and 400 Westbound) took this route to deliver cars and other rolling stock? In the past week, the few vessels have been: Asian Trust (WalWil) - enroute to Koper GMT Astro (Samjoo) - enroute to Singapore Sang Shin (Samjoo) - enroute to Misurata Bahri Jazan (Bahri) - enroute to Jeddah Rhea Leader (NYK) - enroute to Gibraltar We see that the RoRo activity in the Suez canal is down 70% so far in January vs monthly average 2021-2023, whereas it's getting crowded outside Cape which is up 133% in the same period. Bad for global trade and bad for the environment, but how long will it last?
