2nd December is recognized as the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery by the United Nations. Forced labor, trafficking and domestic servitude are modern slavery which is on the rise according to UN. As an individual, if we are deprived of our individuality, space and personal freedom, we are also slaves either to circumstances or situations. America has a long and notorious history of slavery and we often encounter new instances of exploitation now and then. But slavery is not only about America, it is a burning question for the entire humanity. Though slavery has been officially abolished in the US long ago in 1865, but its cultural and internalized expressions still find room in many parts of the world. Official abolition did not mean complete eradication and cultural obliterations. I would like to highlight a few points: 1️⃣ Why do we still equate beauty and superiority with whiteness in many modern societies? 2️⃣ Why do we define slavery "natural" and "divine" when there is individual freedom granted by the God? These questions are quite troubling. Surprisingly, many of the US Presidents and political luminaries owned slaves. How can be the defenders of democracy be the promoters of slavery? We often hear the slogans, ''Make America Great Again", "America is Great". But the fact is America can never be great because the cultural schizophrenia of slavery is still prevalent. #slavery #abolishslavery #freedomofexpression #freedomforall

There is a long history of Black people supporting the rights of Palestinians to have their land ownership, humanity, and dignity restored. The history of Blacks in solidarity with Palestinians has its roots in the early stages of the Civil Rights movement. It is a solidarity built on the shared suffering and oppression, a thorough understanding of how a tacit designation of second class citizenship and treatment destroys lives, and the brutality of an ethnocentric (mostly all-Caucasian) government. Malcolm X said, “You can’t separate peace from freedom because no one can have peace unless he has freedom.” If we are truly seeking peace then freedom must be a non-negotiable starting point. The US must end vetoing the right of Palestinians to seek statehood and recognition at the UN. Any Black person who stands in favor of oppression and murder of Palestinians is that servant Malcolm described in his "Message to the Grass Roots" speech delivered on November 10, 1963 at King Solomon Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. #savethechildren #ceasefireingazanow #endthegenocide #stopgazagenocide #endisraeliapartheid #endisraelioccupation #remembertrailoftears #blacklivesmatter #palestinianlivesmatter #palestinewillbefree #CCR #UNCHR #UnitedNations #freegaza #NAACP #HRW #UrbanLeague #humanrightswatch #humanrightsviolations #martinlutherkingjr #drujaama #earnestujaama #joebiden #marclamonthill #ilanpappe #benniemiller #MalcolmX #WeChargeGenocide #SouthAfrica #icj #genocideconvention #GenevaConvention #WarCrimesAct #18USC1091 #18USC956 #RomeStatuteArticle15 #icc #naacp #urbanleague #normanfinkelstein #avischlaim #holocaust #genocideingaza

In this episode of Faithful Politics, hosts Will and Pastor Josh invited Congressman Jared Huffman to explore themes of religious liberty, Christian nationalism, and the role of religion in politics. Congressman Huffman, representing California's second congressional district, delves into his work with the Congressional Freethought Caucus (not forethought, lol), emphasizing its dedication to upholding the separation of church and state and combating discrimination against religious minorities and non-believers. The discussion illuminates the challenges posed by Christian nationalism, highlighting its influence on events like the Jan. 6 insurrection and its implications for religious liberty in the United States. https://lnkd.in/e4Suiq84

What would you do if someone stole your house and livelihood, killed some of your family members in the process, left the rest of you with nothing, and forced you to live in the squalor of a refugee camp? That is what Israel did to over 750,000 Palestinian in 1948, over 300,000 in 1967, and over 250,000 since then, and more every year. Most of the families in Gaza owned homes and farms where Israeli cities and towns now stand, which Israel literally stole from them. Many still even have the keys, and some homes still stand with Jewish immigrants living in them now. I also cry for the 36 innocent Israeli children killed on October 7th, but this horrible conflict did NOT start on that day. The proof is the nearly 2300 Palestinian children Israeli soldiers and settlers killed between the year 2000 and October 2023, including 43 children during the 9 months just before October 7th (all names & details documented on BTselem.org). Not to mention Israel’s brutal 57 year occupation/apartheid, and the blockade of Gaza since 2005 — both illegal under international law, and simply immoral and inhumane.. And now Israel is committing genocide and our government is helping them do it. Israel has killed over 12,000 Palestinian children in under 5 months, has orphaned over 25,000 more children, and has made over 900,000 children homeless during winter. And Israel is still blocking international aid to these children, increasingly killing them with starvation, dehydration, and disease, in addition to killing them with U.S. supplied bombs and ammunition. They’ve literally been amputating children’s legs without anesthesia. Can you imagine if that happened to your child? Aid agencies have even had to come up with a new acronym: WCNSF, which stands for Wounded Child No Surviving Family. Do you really think Hamas will need to teach the children who survive this hell to hate Israel, or is Israel’s indiscriminate brutality doing it for them, as it has for 75 years? PLEASE WRITE & CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES & the White House to demand that they stop helping Israel kill and starve children, commit war crimes, and maintain its brutal and racist apartheid, with our tax dollars. Our government has the power to end this unimaginable cruelty by simply refusing to send more weapons and ammunition to Israel, and by also not vetoing any more UN Security Council resolutions for a ceasefire. And if you still believe the lie that this ethnic cleansing and genocide by Israel is the only way it can beat Hamas and ensure its security, please read and share this article that explains the much more effective way that Israel has been ignoring: https://lnkd.in/gY98T9mc
