Diana Lanser has been promoted to Associate. She is a bilingual architect with 29 years of experience, 20 years in the United States and another nine years in Peru. In 2023, she achieved her goal of becoming a registered architect in Connecticut. “Coming from a medium-income family in Peru, with hardworking parents with great values and work ethic, they taught me that education and honest work is the road to success!” For Diana, family is the key to success. “I want to inspire my 10-year-old daughter, 11 and 4-year-old nieces, and 24-year-old nephew, who just received his degree of bachelor of architecture degree a few weeks ago!“ She has taken many projects through program development, design documentation, permitting and approvals, and construction administration. Our clients describe Diana as a person who creates an atmosphere of confidence that no detail or challenge will go unresolved. #Promotion #WomenInConstruction #Architect #Inspiration #MeetTSKP Image Description: An accomplished female architect is standing in the model room of an architectural office. Architects' Council of Europe (ACE-CAE) & IFLA Europe _ open letter in support of the law on #nature restoration On 12 June 2024, the Architects' Council of Europe (ACE) and the European Region of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA Europe) have sent an open letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and to the Belgian presidency of the Council of the European Union, asking them to appeal to the Member States of Belgium, Finland, Austria, Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands and Poland to vote in favor of the first Europe-wide Nature Restoration Law and to give up their blocking minority - in the interests of ecosystems and in the interests of Europe. The Architects Council of Europe (ACE) and the European Region of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA Europe) are deeply concerned about the blocking minority position of certain EU Member States towards the EU Nature Restoration Law. The ACE and IFLA Europe, which represent the Architects and Landscape Architects across Europe, are partners of the New European Bauhaus, and are calling for a consistent law to restore nature. The Nature Recovery Law is acknowledging the importance of restoration of our natural systems and the need to secure the conservation, development, and management of our landscapes to ensure climate resilience, as an extension of the European Green Deal or the new European Bauhaus Declaration. This law is an essential contribution to achieving the climate targets we have set ourselves and provides important guidelines for our professions. This joint letter underscores the urgent need to adopt the EU Nature Restoration Law to safeguard our environment and future generations. How does #participation relate to architectural #conservation practice, and the way we assess, adapt, conserve, and manage our built #heritage? My latest article, 'Walk slowly, listen carefully, tread softly: enhancing participation in architectural conservation practice', published in the International Journal of Heritage Studies, engages with accredited #conservation #architects to understand how participation can inform built heritage projects in the UK. Some key insights: 👉 A 'community' for conservation architects can be defined as a group of place-based users who geographically share the embodied experience of a place in common. 👉 Participatory methods on architectural conservation projects reimagine historic environments as safe spaces for reciprocal knowledge transfer. 👉 Participation outcomes are pivotal for enhancing significance, shaping project briefs, and cultivating local community support for projects. 👉 Participation helps conservation architects transform buildings into repositories of communal memory by coordinating local living memory with physical fabric. 👉 Participation re-conceptualises the building or site as a symbol of partnership and collective action with local communities. The article is Open Access and available at the following link: https://lnkd.in/gyZgSiTS

The public is asking more from architecture- after all, it’s the places we live, work and play. “ Who should be advocating for architecture in Canada, and how should that advocacy be focused? In my view, a core issue for local, provincial, and national architecture advocates should be raising the standard for architecture—as supported by fair fees, improved procurement, and decent working conditions for the next generation of architects. A business advocacy voice is needed for architecture.”

The Northern Territory (NT) Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects has launched ‘Designing for the future of the Territory,’ a pre-election campaign to highlight priorities urging politicians to consider the built environment in the upcoming election. “The Northern Territory is a unique and wonderful environment to live, raise a family, and is unsurprisingly an amazing destination for Australian and international travellers” says acting NT President Steven Huntingford LFRAIA, representing the Territory’s architects. “However, we are faced with complex challenges of adapting to climate change, the provision of safe and long-lasting buildings, housing for all Territorians, and building local capacity for the economy.” The 2024 Northern Territory Election priorities emphasise how architecture can drive a strong and sustainable future for the Territory. These priorities focus on four key areas: – Safe and long-lasting buildings in the Territory: constructing safe and long-lasting buildings that can withstand the Territory’s climate – Building local capacity for design and construction: to create local jobs – Delivering value: ensuring building projects deliver the most value for every dollar spent – Good housing for all Territorians: to address prevalent housing issues. *APPEAL ALLOWED* We at Avalon are delighted to have secured consent at appeal for enhancements to Sideshore’s fantastic offer on Exmouth seafront! The proposals for a new multi-use hub building for Sideshore CIC provides purpose-built accommodation for the site operations, meeting space for use by local community groups and additional ancillary space to support events on the adjacent green space. The consent also secures WC facilities in a modest extension to the existing buildings all powered by renewable energy. The application was refused at Planning Committee against officer recommendation for approval in February 2023 on matters relating to impact on the character and appearance of the area. We submitted an appeal via the written representations route in June 2023 and are pleased to see that The Inspector fully agreed with our case that the proposed innovative, high quality and low impact design developed by HiltonBarnfield Architects was an appropriate response to the character of the site, it’s landscape setting and the constraints and opportunities it affords. The proposals have been underpinned by an ethos of delivering the lowest impact building as possible and incorporates reclaimed materials and “wildlife walls” into its façade while utilising light weight ground screw foundation design to minimise the need to break ground. A great result for talented multidisciplinary team including Sideshore CIC, Hilton Barnfield Architects, Coreus Group, Airey & Coles Consulting Engineers, Greengage and Avalon Planning & Heritage (Archaeology). #planning #planningapproval #planningappeal #consultancy #avalonplanningandheritage #sustainabledevelopment

Amy Mcfadzean and her husband Douglas Mcfadzean run a small and thriving Architectural practice based in Aberdeen called McFadzean Studio. Although they are based in Aberdeen, their work is predominantly located in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Falkirk areas. Before establishing their own business, she worked with several Edinburgh-based firms. Whilst studying Architecture, Amy specialised in the field of Architectural Conservation so listed building and conservation areas are something she is very familiar with. Their work often involves the conversion or alteration of such buildings. During her presentation, Amy will cover: 1. What needs Planning Permission and what the process is 2. What needs a Building Warrant and what the process is 3. What they look at as an architect to determine whether a flat is suitable for 1 to 2-bed conversion in terms of building regulation compliance. 4. How they assess whether a house is suitable for an attic conversion to add value to the property If you would like to learn about all these topics, then Amy’s presentation will show you how. With the application window now open, it's a good time for #architects to look at the process of heritage and conservation #architecture. Here's a RIBA professional feature on why the cultural value of projects is just as important as the technical side when it comes to application. https://lnkd.in/e6-Y6uhE
