Late last year I suffered from Idiopathic Sudden Onset Sensorineural Hearing Loss in my right ear. I was extremely worried as it came on very rapidly after a couple of days of suffering from tinnitus. I was in the lucky position to be able to speak to a GP as part of our Healix staff healthcare trust and was told that I needed to take some steroids as soon as possible. As a member of our staff healthcare trust, I had the benefit of being seen the same day and received an emergency intratympanic steroid injection.
My hearing was tested the following day and I was suffering an 80db severe hearing loss. I had four further injections over the next ten days, a hearing test on day 6 showed my hearing had improved to around the 40db level. Three weeks later, the hearing in my right ear had returned to normal. My sincere thanks to all those who helped me but especially Healix Health and Joseph Manjaly
This is a condition that relatively little is known about and the treatment options need to be better understood. I was seen by three fantastic consultants during my treatment and one of them, Joseph Manjaly, is promoting a clinical trial to better understand what the best treatment path would be for this condition.

The trial is being run out of Birmingham university and is called the Starfish Trial https://lnkd.in/ewHam8-V
I am one of the lucky ones who was treated quickly and my hearing returned. I know two other people who were not so lucky. I’d be very grateful if you can share this post to raise awareness of the trial and it’s aims.
