Today, as we commemorate Juneteenth, we honor a pivotal moment in our history—the day when the last enslaved individuals in the United States learned of their freedom. This day is not just a celebration of emancipation but also a solemn reminder of the long road to true freedom and equality that still lies ahead. Juneteenth marks a significant victory in the fight against the deep-seated injustices of slavery. Yet, it also serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battles against modern forms of bondage, including human trafficking. This heinous crime continues to affect millions around the world, stripping individuals of their freedom and dignity, much like slavery did over a century ago. As we reflect on the profound significance of Juneteenth, we must also reaffirm our commitment to ending all forms of human exploitation. The abolition of slavery was a crucial step, but our journey is far from over. Human trafficking remains one of the most severe global issues of our time, demanding our attention and action. Let us draw inspiration from the resilience and courage of those who fought for freedom and carried that message of freedom on Juneteenth to ensure ALL people knew that they were free. Let us channel that same energy and relentless determination into the fight against human trafficking, ensuring that freedom and justice are not merely ideals, but realities for ALL. #Juneteenth #freedomforall #eradicatinghumantrafficking

🌿 Reconnecting to the Spirit of Our Treaties 🌿 As I share these posts, my hope is to remind us all of the deeper, sacred meaning behind the treaties our ancestors made. These agreements were not just legal or political contracts—they were built on a spiritual foundation, meant to uphold balance and respect between nations, the land, and all living beings. Over time, the true intent of these treaties has been overshadowed by colonial structures that often reduce them to legal frameworks prioritizing control and resource extraction. I believe it’s important to respectfully bring attention to this, so we can reconnect with the original spirit of our agreements and reclaim the deep relationships they were meant to foster. Through sharing these perspectives, I aim to spark conversations about how we can reawaken to the sacred responsibilities embedded in our treaties. These are living agreements, grounded in our sovereignty and Natural Law, guiding us in caring for the land and protecting the well-being of future generations. They were never intended to be confined by colonial systems that limit our rights or redefine our nationhood. I don’t have all the answers, but by reflecting on these truths together, I hope we can encourage dialogue that centers our relationships with the land, the sacredness of our treaties, and the resilience of our people. This is why I feel it’s important to share these posts: • To remind us that treaties are sacred and living agreements, not meant to be embedded within colonial policies or systems. • To encourage conversations that reflect our shared responsibilities and sovereignty. • To create space for decolonizing the narratives of reconciliation, ensuring they reflect the true spirit and intent of our treaties. I share these thoughts with respect and openness, knowing that this is a collective journey. Together, we can honor our treaties and protect the future for the generations to come. ☀️ #IndigenousSovereignty #Treaties #Decolonization #LandBack #FirstNations #Nationhood #NaturalLaw #ReconciliationTruth

Imagine reading a long, intense novel. The main conflict is resolved towards the end, but you don’t reach the final chapter until much later. This last chapter contains crucial information that ties everything together, providing closure and a deeper understanding of the story. Without reading this chapter, you can't fully grasp the significance of the resolution. Similarly, while the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, it wasn't until June 19, 1865, that the last enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom. Juneteenth represents that final chapter—when the promise of emancipation truly reached all enslaved African Americans, providing closure and a fuller realization of freedom. Just as the final chapter of a book is essential for complete understanding, Juneteenth is crucial for acknowledging the true end of slavery in the United States. Watch the video and pass it along to someone who wants to be and do better. https://lnkd.in/eRBvTm3E

As we approach National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, I invite my non indigenous peers to find time to deeply reflect on the places and spaces your voice was utilized to support reconciliation efforts either in your personal or professional lives. If those reflections cause discomfort, lean into it, this is about the journey, not a race to the destination. Each of our Indigenous professionals are taking deeper breaths this month, as the social media frevor for allyship flag waving, we are here witnessing the cultural genocide of our people spoken about daily. It is an emotional space for us all, sending prayers to my Indigenous peers, may you find gentleness in times of stress. #215 #EveryChildMatters #WeRememberThem #namwayut #Reconciliation #TRC #NationalDayForTruthAndReconciliation
