Following a thorough, national search, we are pleased to announce that Valerie L. Powell-Stafford, MHSA, FACHE, has been named as President of Saint Francis Hospital and Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital. Powell-Stafford arrives in Hartford with over 25 years of experience, having most recently served as President and CEO of HCA Northside Hospital, in St. Petersburg, Florida. She will officially begin her new role on June 3. “We are thrilled to be welcoming Ms. Powell-Stafford as President of Saint Francis Hospital,” said Montez Carter, PharmD, FACHE, President and CEO of Trinity Health Of New England. “Along with her extensive leadership experience, Ms. Powell-Stafford brings an energy and enthusiasm we know will filter throughout our existing leadership team, colleagues, and community. UHN in Toronto moved from 4th to 3rd best hospital in the world, just behind #Mayoclinic and #clevelandclinic. What an amazing achievement… There are many insights that come to mind at the moment, but would like to share just one, which fills me with hope: I’ve been lucky enough to have worked for almost 10 years at 2 of the top 3 hospitals in the world (Mayo and UHN). Completely different organizations, mindset, processes, social/national circumstances, etc. Just completely different in almost any way. But both capable of achieving excellence at the highest level. Never think excellence is impossible! In a joint venture, Henry Ford Health and Ascension Michigan are planning to form a new organization with $10.5 billion in revenue. Several Ascension hospitals in southeast Michigan will join with Henry Ford in a new organization with more than 550 sites of care and 50,000 employees. The systems hope to complete the transaction in the summer of 2024. Robert Riney, president and CEO of Henry Ford Health, would lead the new organization. “We share a deeply-rooted dedication to providing world-class healthcare that everyone deserves, regardless of geographic, demographic, or socioeconomic status," Riney says.

The 25 year old VAQS post-doctoral fellowship program prepares future nurses, physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to lead healthcare improvement. In the first day of the VA Quality Scholars Summer Institute, first year fellows assessed the current state of the Toxic Exposure Screening process at their local sites and shared with organizational leaders across multiple sites.
