Its time for real change. Time for modernisation in Healthcare.

I love is work. This interview is the truth. I am ok with working from a place of truth. Additionally, the corporatization of healthcare is suffocating individualized patient care. While we focus on clinical practices, we're overlooking a critical factor: the business arm of the healthcare system wields immense, often underestimated influence over patient experiences. Their decisions on staffing ratios make personalized care nearly impossible. Their budget allocations dictate precious minutes spent with each patient. In essence, boardroom choices are silently shaping bedside realities, transforming care from a human-centered practice into a race against the clock. Until we confront these systemic issues, the promise of truly individualized healthcare will remain frustratingly out of reach.

📚 In BC, in addition to MD, NP and Midwifery prescribers, there have been recent regulatory changes to enable pharmacist and nurse prescribing. Increasing access to care is a big part of the why. As we look to improve access to care and quality related to medication practices, including appropriateness of prescribing it is important to look at interprofessional strategies. I’ll be adding this study to my reading list this week to learn more. This statement in the Stanford news release caught my eye: “If expanding patient access while ensuring quality and safety systemwide is the goal, fixation on the question of whether NPs or other nonphysician providers should be allowed to prescribe may be less impactful than identifying and addressing deficient performance among all clinicians who prescribe, regardless of practitioner type or practice location.” The report describes various interventions with strong potential to improve prescribing, including clinician-level performance measures, prescription drug monitoring systems and initiatives aimed at ensuring better adherence to trusted guidelines such as the Beers Criteria.” Learn more👇 https://lnkd.in/gi-wtK53

A worthy read!! Far too much energy is being spent debating the competency of Advanced Practice Providers who are solid contributors to increasing access to care despite a fractured and fragmented system. This is not scope of practice infringement! This is bridging catastrophic gaps in care. Why are we not focusing time, energy and resources on solutions? Quality of patient care? Licensed clinical triage? Decreasing current burnout rates? Amplify the real issues, and let egos fall as they may.

For the first time in many years, students graduating from psychiatric-mental health programs have a new choice in certification exams. The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board has introduced a PMHNP certification and will administer its first PMHNP exams this spring. California NPs! We have another hurdle to face for potential Full Practice Authority (FPA). Did you know that some of California's most experienced and qualified nurse practitioners are not eligible to become 103 NPs because their national certifications have been "retired?" I am one of these NPs. The board certification I took, "Adult NP," doesn't exist anymore with AANP. I still have to maintain all of my current licensure, CEUs, board requirements, etc., but AANP retired this particular exam. So the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) has identified these kinds of board certifications as "legacy certifications" and, as such, they are not recognized as potential 103 NPs. These are some of the most experienced and qualified NPs, so this does not make sense! At least a few times weekly, I see or read articles, editorials and recommendations related to what nursing homes need to do or should do to operate better. 99% of the time these are written by people who have not ever worked one day in a nursing home, and likely have rarely if ever stepped foot in a nursing home. If you work in the nursing home industry, do not underestimate the power of getting involved in issues that shape our industry. Get involved in anything you can which impacts legislation and policy related to nursing home operations. Attend CMS conference calls, comment when Med Pac asks for feedback on proposed policies, join associations and help lobby and advocate. Otherwise, important policy and legislative issues will be dictated by individuals and entities who simply do not understand our level of care, yet who wield power that is often misdirected.
