Happy Mother’s Day! 💕
I haven’t seen my (living) mother since Father’s Day 2010. The last picture I have with my (living) mother is this one from April 2008. My mother, by her own choice, has not seen my children…her grandchildren…since November 2003. I love my mother. With all of my heart. I have learned to forgive her. She has done the best that she could in light of her own life experience. And her own perception of reality. I celebrate daily the beautiful and positive impact that she had on my life. I love to cook because of her. I love to accommodate others’ needs because of her. I get my creative energy from her. We are both Pisces - highly imaginative and emotionally sensitive creatures. My heart aches for all of the time lost. But I’ve made peace with it. And I’ve long ago accepted that it is outside of my control and relinquished my compulsion to fix it. For me, Mother’s Day is instead about my own beautiful babies. About the intentional effort that I made to make our relationships successful. To break the generational curse. I’ve recently come to understand and accept that two completely different things can be true and coexist simultaneously. I can be sad for my own absent relationship with my mother and at the same time overjoyed with gratitude for the honor and privilege of being Mommacita to two of the most amazing humans on the planet. It’s completely okay to have both contrasting emotions. To sit with them. To feel them each deeply and completely. So if you’ve bothered to read this far…I encourage you to do the same. It’s okay to have difficulty with this day…for whatever reason…yet celebrate it for another reason altogether. Neither is doing disservice to the other. So. With all of that being said.
