Friday muse #8 Why being punctual is so difficult to follow....Have you ever missed a flight or the start of a movie due to poor planning? Chances are slim. Wondered why? Because no one waits for you there. The flight takes off at the scheduled time and the movie gets screened too, waiting for none. Most people who arrived late have built in their subconscious that late arrivals are generally tolerated. And there is another set who are fashionably late to attract attention. They act as busy people who have to squeeze out time between tasks. Some arrive late believing others would be late too and they would have to wait for them. Being on time is praiseworthy and should be commended. Punctuality comes with practice, being organized, disciplined and consistent. One step to start being on time is to work backwards, taking into account all factors that take up time.

I never thought I'd be using the term "ham and egging" in my daily work life. Shoutout to Brian Ryther, who coined the term at Roundtrip to describe how our team has best navigated getting approval from hospital IT teams. For the non-golfers out there, if a team of players is ham and egging, one player performed quite admirably on the hole while the other participant finished far above par. The reference alludes to team members being able to cover for each other’s weaknesses. Hospital IT reviews often involve security, compliance, architecture, integration interfaces, and a whole host of other topics. Calls with these teams can often feel like an interrogation designed to poke holes and find a reason to say "no." I get it. Their jobs are to prevent cyberattacks and ensure that their limited IT resources are used properly. That said, it can be disheartening to a team with good intent who isn't prepared to answer the barrage of questions. Preparation & documentation is key. Halloween is Coming… Peer Support Programme: Trick-or-Treat? "Trick" can mean the challenges or stress pilots and flight attendants face at work. "Treat" represents the support, kindness, and positive interaction in the Peer Support Programme. We hope the programme will help turn "Tricks" (difficulties) into "Treats" (support and solutions). Here are some Halloween-inspired symbols of support: 👻✨ Ghostbusters of Stress: In the support programme, colleagues can come together to "chase away" fears and worries by talking openly in a safe space. 🎃🕯️ Pumpkin as a Symbol of Support: Like a pumpkin turning into a lantern, Peers can "light the way" for colleagues during tough times. 🕸️🕷️ Web of Support: Each thread of the "web" represents connections between Peers and colleagues, showing the strength of the team’s support. 🍬🤝 Treats: Simple acts like eye contact, a smile, asking, "How are you?", wishing a good flight, and expressing gratitude for the teamwork can become little "treats" that have a big positive effect on each of us every day.
