We're striving to be the world's most trusted seafood brand, and to leave our world better than we found it. Typical press coverage of Luke's features a picture of a lobster roll, or of our rapidly-aging white male founders. But the photo T+L chose for Luke's gets at everything behind the lobster roll. It's Flora, Amelia, and Ana, three young Black women who represent a promising future for the marine economy. Creating opportunity for groups of people who are traditionally excluded, and building a working waterfront where everyone--from 10th generation fishermen to folks who are brand new to the coast--belongs, is how we create a robust future for everyone in the seafood business. The four lessons I learned when I started my first summer job with British Airways Back in the summer of 1998, I took on my first summer job with British Airways as a Passenger Handler at Ports of Jersey (Jersey Airport). My days were filled with getting passengers off planes, checking tickets, and answering endless queries. And of course, making sure those planes left on time. It might sound simple, but the experience was anything but. I learnt about patience ↳ Staying calm and composed, even when things didn’t go as planned, was the key to keeping everything running smoothly A smile goes a long way ↳ A simple smile can ease tensions and make the journey a bit better for everyone Handling drama ↳ I learned to deal with the unexpected - from missed flights, fog to confused passengers. Each situation taught me to think quickly and find solutions Quick decision-making ↳ Timing was everything. Whether it was solving a problem before it escalated or ensuring a flight departed on schedule, the ability to make quick, effective decisions was crucial Yes they are memories, but also skills I carry with me even today. Last week, Southwest Airlines celebrated #nationalinternday, and somehow I felt like I should have been the one celebrating my co-Hearts! That is the effect that Southwest has had on me, as well as everyone who experiences our LUV-ing, people-first culture. Truly, I believe there are not enough words to explain all that Southwest Airlines has taught me during the past few months. Our brand is one-of-a-kind, and it has been a privilege to help bring our Heart to life in key markets as well as national campaigns this summer. My role as a brand engagement intern involves providing unique customer experiences through sports sponsorships and partner activations. If there is one thing I have learned from working in experiential marketing thus far, it would be the importance of staying true to your brand no matter what. At Southwest, we demonstrate our brand commitment through making strategic choices and always prioritizing our people. Speaking of the Southwest brand, why is it so unique?
