@Champagne + Fromage is a cool brand, so we have had lot's of conversations with great potential franchisees, and lot's of conversations with people who are not in honesty right for the brand. No franchise brand is right for everyone, or everywhere, and not all potential franchisees are right for the brand. It has to be the right people, right place, right time. Here are some barriers and some of questions some of the Champagne + Fromage franchisees have come across. 'I'm not sure I can get the funding' Let's look at it with our funding partners. 'I think I might have found the right location, but I'm not sure' Let's look at finding the right premises with our property partner. 'I'm not sure how to structure my new franchise business' If you've never done this before, let's introduce you to our accountancy partner who is a real person, not an accountancy robot. I had great conversations this week with several successful franchisors and franchisees, and a common theme emerged about what has made them so successful, so I thought I would share the highlights with my larger network - 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁y In the world of franchising, success isn't just about building a reputable brand—it's about fostering a thriving network of franchisees. “We should be doing what?!” We’ve blown a couple of minds lately. We always ask franchisors to tell us about their franchisee support and what ongoing value they provide to their franchisees. For most young franchise systems, the response is typically: (1) an operations manual; (2) an online portal housing marketing collateral (e.g., various logos, brand stock imagery, etc.); and (3) a pre-opening checklist. And this is great. A great start. Up-and-coming franchise systems, especially those led by inspiring entrepreneurs that are not (yet!) experienced in franchising, spend a lot of time and energy solely focused on growing their national footprint. Not a lot of time is typically spent on building the foundations for supporting franchisees on an ongoing, long-term basis. The sentiment is usually one of “we’ll worry about it when we get there.” And BOOM! They’re “there” and they need to create, build, structure, test, launch, do all the things and fast. And now the team has less time than before because the organization is marketing, selling, supporting, evaluating, all the franchisor things. Our advice: Audit. Spend quality time (a lot of it!) objectively assessing the tools you provide. Consider: 1️⃣ Quality > Are the resources still accurate, relevant and on brand? Does the support team have credibility with franchisees? 2️⃣ Perspective > Do the tools adequately support ALL phases of the franchise journey? 3️⃣ Modality > Do the support resources span all different types of learning modalities - read-only, interactive, live, in-person, peer-to-peer, etc.? 4️⃣ Purpose > Do the resources help drive franchisee performance and revenue? 5️⃣ Buy-In > Do franchisees like the resources? How is the support team feeling? 6️⃣ Strategy > What needs to be created? Updated? Deleted? Does your support model, overall, need to be revised/rebuilt? Do you need more manpower to get this done and keep maintained? When is the next audit scheduled? No one said franchising was easy. And all franchisors should want to support their franchisees to the fullest; it’s a mutualistic symbiotic relationship.
