It must be a strange time to work in DMS: Every engineer in ADAS can understand automation complacency, and yet many L2 implementations still pretend it's not a thing; assuming an 'attentive driver' as a catch-all for any safety case shortcomings. To quote IIHS' president David Harkey, as this article does: “Some drivers may feel that partial automation makes long drives easier, but there is little evidence it makes driving safer. As many high-profile crashes have illustrated, it can introduce new risks when systems lack appropriate safeguards.” I've seen DMS/in-cabin monitoring getting much more of the spotlight in the last year or two, though - hope that will lead to better safety results in upcoming models!

Automakers ask US agency to reconsider emergency braking rule – ET Auto The requirement is the one of the most far reaching U.S. auto safety regulations in recent years. Safety advocates said existing systems were not performing well especially at night. A group representing major automakers asked the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to reconsider the rule issued in April requiring nearly all new cars and trucks https://lnkd.in/d4pyVtWd

What is an eDVIR (Electronic Driver Vehicle Inspection Report)?. The days when drivers had to submit tons of paperwork just to maintain compliance with their inspection reports, wasting lots of time on forms while they could be out there delivering and earning their living. eDVIR (Electronic Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) makes the inspection process faster and simpler, significantly allowing drivers and fleet operators to be more efficient at managing and handling fleet vehicles. Electronic DVIRs are digital forms that drivers fill out electronically, indicating the condition of vehicles and their components, and the reports include a wide range of safety concerns. How can fleets use the electronic inspection reports? Check out our article on our blog here: https://lnkd.in/d5kq9uqG

Traffic safety and a bench mark working environment is always on top of the list at Daimler Trucks.
Can you imagine a world without traffic accidents? We at Daimler Truck AG can. And we strive for accident-free driving – our “Vision Zero”. As of July, stricter regulations for trucks will be introduced by the EU. On this occasion, I wanted to give you a quick overview of our state-of-the-art safety assistance systems. Some of which go even beyond the legal requirements, but all do focus on one thing: the safety of all road users. Core is the new electronics platform with 270° sensor fusion technology that enables far-reaching visibility around the vehicle: ➡️ Active Brake Assist 6: can initiate automated full-stop braking ahead of crossing, oncoming or in-lane road users at speeds of up to 60 km/h plus multi-lane monitoring at a distance of up to 250 meters ➡️ Active Sideguard Assist 2: can scan traffic on both the driver’s and front passenger sides and is able to initiate automated braking at turning speed of up to 20km/h at the passenger side ➡️ Front Guard Assist: when moving off and at intersections, it monitors the traffic in front of the vehicle and supports the driver with two-stage warning system ➡️ Active Drive Assist 3: enables partially automated driving and now also offers an emergency steering function which can actively countersteer to prevent leaving the lane and steer the vehicle back into the center of the lane ➡️ Traffic Sign Assist: not only permanently displays speed limits, but also identifies passing and warning signs We’ll start the roll-out of these safety assistance systems in all Mercedes-Benz truck and bus models as well as Setra bus models. With all these assistance systems, we want to support and relieve drivers in their demanding work. This is a major step towards our “Vision Zero” of accident-free driving. Many thanks to the entire Daimler Truck AG team for working to make this vision a reality – let's keep it up! #Safetyfirst #transformation #digitalization #WeAreDaimlerTruck #ForAllWhoKeepTheWorldMoving
