This month's brand spotlight is Reliant Energy (an NRG brand). Over the course of the last year, Reliant Energy has seen more than $3.5M in social value across various leagues and teams. The Houston Astros, Houston Texans, and Houston Rockets have brought in more than $2.7M in social value combined. While Reliant (or NRG) holds the naming rights for the Texans stadium, the Astros were actually the team that has brought in the most value so far this year for Reliant. The post featured here brought in a total of $15.5K in value for Reliant, who has a static sign in the outfield of the Astros stadium. This outfield sign has proven to be valuable for the brand across social, broadcast and in-venue and is an asset they should continue to invest in. Note: Date range is 01/01/2024-08/21/2024

Before anyone even sets foot on the field, Super Bowl LVIII will already have made history. Not because of the quarterbacks, players, coaches, fans or even Taylor Swift, but thanks to the stadium itself. The upcoming championship game between the 49ers and the Chiefs will be the first Super Bowl powered completely by renewable energy. In fact, because of a landmark deal between the team and a local utility that Partner Baird Fogel helped negotiate. As we look ahead to the biggest night in football, take a look at this article, authored by Baird, in which he examines how this historic contract came to be and the many benefits it offers to the Raiders franchise. It also explains what other sports teams should know about negotiating renewable energy deals of their own. #renewableenergy #sports

We have earlier compared Energy Drinks giants Red Bull and Monster Energy and their involvement in Formula 1 and Premier League. Red Bull has shifted its strategy a little bit and is now a major player, partnering with six clubs in the Premier League. Monster Energy matches this with six clubs, and when we include Predator Energy, a Chelsea partner, Monster Energy reaches seven partnerships. The United States is perhaps the most important market for energy drink companies. But what is their involvement in the U.S. soccer league, Major League Soccer? Let’s also consider Celsius, a partner of Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1, which currently has no partnerships in the Premier League. In 2023, Red Bull surpassed €10 billion in sales, Monster Energy reached $7 billion, and Celsius hit $1 billion for the first time—all showing strong growth. Here's a quick overview of the engagements of Red Bull, Monster Energy, and Celsius in Formula 1, the Premier League, and Major League Soccer.

This year’s Super Bowl wasn’t just about touchdowns and scandalous halftime shows, it was a groundbreaking moment for clean energy. As the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers battled it out on the field, the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas was quietly making history as the first Super Bowl venue powered entirely by renewable energy. Imagine the scene: 65,000 fans cheering under the glow of lights fueled not by traditional energy sources but by the sun's rays harnessed through the Arrow Canyon Solar Project. This colossal solar farm, nestled 20 miles from Sin City on the Moapa Band of Paiute Indians Reservation, boasts over 600,000 panels and large scale battery storage. Adam Kramer, CEO of NZero, rightly points out the significance of this feat. "If they can do it, hopefully it inspires people with homes or small businesses and other corporations to move in this direction," he says. And he's spot on. With the Super Bowl serving as a beacon of renewable energy on the grandest stage, it's a call to action for us all. Yet, let's not ignore the elephant in the room. While the event's carbon footprint remains significant, this conversation marks a pivotal shift towards greener practices in the sports industry. As the final whistle blew, it wasn't just a victory for the Chiefs or the Rams’ stadium, it was a triumph for the planet. Here’s to a future where every bowl—Super or otherwise—is a Green Bowl!
