I recently spoke on behalf of our client, UNSW, at a council meeting to encourage Council to support the delivery of additional student housing in Randwick. The story from The Sydney Morning Herald provides a good summary… "This Sydney university wants to build 1000 apartments. Locals are up in arms" - https://lnkd.in/gMcjVucW The responsibility to unlock and deliver housing at all levels of Council is important to say the least. Sydney is in a once-in-a-generation housing crisis, and it is clear that there is no silver bullet to solve the problem at hand. The NSW Government’s commitment to the National Housing Accord requires the delivery of 377,000 new homes over the next 5 years. To achieve this, there have been many initiatives both signalled and implemented, including the flagship Transport Oriented Development program, low-and mid-rise reforms, and new housing targets. The task of delivering housing in the Housing Accord is momentous, and collaboration and commitment at all levels of government is needed. Industry will also play a critical role in achieving this aspiration, particularly in the delivery of diverse housing options which will create greater supply and relieve pressure from existing rental stock. Here’s hoping for swift reforms, action, and accountability. Beam Planning Michael Rowe Chris Forrester #BeamTeam #HousingCrisis #StudentHousing #NSW #NSWPlanning

From San Francisco in the west and New York City in the east, Chinatowns across the United States have fostered community for the East Asian diaspora for over 200 years. But in equal parts, they have become targets for developers, leading to the gentrification of these storied neighborhoods and the erasure of community ties. Today, locals in Philadelphia’s historic Chinatown are waging a fight against the construction of 76 Place – an arena developers are planning to build for Philly’s NBA franchise, the 76ers, in the heart of Chinatown. Some residents, business owners, and advocates of Philadelphia's Chinatown see the arena as a threat the future livelihood of the community. “For them, Chinatown is their only space that honors East Asian culture, providing a sense of safety and belonging. They worry that six years of road closures, construction dust, and noise pollution will decimate small businesses, many which have been struggling to rebuild since the COVID-19 pandemic and widespread attacks on Asian Americans,” writes journalist Allison Lau for Frame. In our latest story, Lau sends a dispatch from Philadelphia, taking us into the David-versus-Goliath-esque fight between Chinatown residents and the developer trying to build a new NBA arena in their backyard. Philly’s fight to save its Chinatown mirrors efforts in cities across the U.S. — and could serve as a blueprint for future fights to come. Were Bristol City Women's FC in the Relegation Battle before even kicking the ball? Bristol City's journey in the Women's Super League echoes the financial hurdles many women's teams face. Being one of just two teams left in the WSL without the backing of a Premier League side – Leicester City are the other and they are an incomparable operation – they have had to be creative in their approach. With a tight budget, Bristol City's team "off-the-pitch" is half the size of the average WSL team, and a third of the size of the bigger clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea women. An abundance of injuries this season also meant the team utilised more academy players, fielding the youngest average line up in the division (24 years, 136 days). The obvious solution here would've been to add three players to their squad in the January transfer window, but could they even afford to? Women's teams with more money generated by their men's teams are excelling against those without. For me, this poses the obvious question - is this in the spirit of competition? But it's a tough question. Limited backing from Premier League and Championship sides in the men's fame would surely reduce the growth rate of the game and therefore enforcing regulations on this would have a negative effect. How do you suggest teams like Bristol City women tackle this problem? #wsl #womenssuperleague #womenschampionship #womensfootball #womenssoccer #bristolcitywomen #bristolcityfc

So, what’s next? Last week we had the pleasure of being invited to watch Bradford City play in their 4-0 victory over MK Dons and what a great experience seeing athletes doing what they do best. But what is the plan after professional sport? The beauty of property investment is that it is very passive so athletes can focus on their sports career without distraction yet benefit from a cash-flowing asset generating capital growth! We wish Bradford City AFC luck with the rest of the season! Manchester United's American owners, the Glazer family, are set to finalise a $33 per share deal with Jim Ratcliffe that will see the British billionaire acquire a 25% stake in the English soccer club. The deal will bring to an end a year-long sale process. The Glazer family announced last November that they were exploring "strategic alternatives" for the club, including a possible sale and were open to fresh investment. Ratcliffe's offer represents a premium of 79.1% to the stock's Thursday closing price of $18.43, valuing the Old Trafford club at about $5.4bn excluding debt. While the deal will not see the back of the Glazers, who are deeply unpopular with the fans of the 20-times English soccer champions, it will result in major changes to the way the club is run. The deal values Manchester United above Premier League soccer rival Chelsea, which was sold by Russian businessman Roman Abramovich last May for $5.2bn - including debt and investments - to an investment group led by US billionaire Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital Group. #MergersAcquisitionsDivestitures #PrivateEquity #Football #Sports
