As Black History Month comes to an end in the UK, we want to share a quote and clip of Shauna Dominique, talking about the importance of the month and allyship.
"To improve inclusion and representation in the workplace we should start off by understanding the past, so we can appreciate the diversity in the present and make informed choices about our future."

Black History Month to me is a time of reflection and celebration. It's a time where we highlight our achievements, contributions, and resilience of Black people throughout history. Understanding our initiatives, our innovations, our culture, our perseverance, and how that's helped shape society in profound ways. So Black History Month, for starters, can help educate others by having conversations about race, culture, and its impact. It will encourage people to broaden their perspectives. And to improve inclusion and representation in the workplace, we should start off by understanding the past so that we can appreciate the diversity in the present and make informed choices about our future and coming up with initiatives to help support underrepresented groups to help give people an opportunity to thrive. So allies play a crucial role in advocating change and amplifying voices for others. The effective way that allies can help advocate for change would be, you know, listening with empathy, educating themselves and being able to have the courage to speak up in situations. So my best advice for colleagues who don't know what to say when it comes to Black History Month, don't be afraid to ask questions. It's OK to not have the answers. There's loads of resources out there. One being speak to your colleagues and friends, have a conversation about it or do some researching. You know, we're in it together. We're in it together to grow and to learn.
