Does your country have an iconic distinctive asset? Our latest research identifies the most distinctive tourism assets. Of the hundreds of monuments, scenery, characters, animals, foods, and symbols tested among a sample of 1,000+ U.S. based international travellers, Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza is the most distinctive, and surprisingly to many, beats the Eiffel Tower to the top spot. U.K. symbols meanwhile performed admirably, with assets related to the crown scoring strongly, highlighting their importance to brand U.K. Delving deeper into the findings, we uncovered a number of assets suffering from misattribution to neighbouring nations, as well as some key considerations for the travel and tourism industry. Attracting the desired kind of tourism is hard. Here is a 5-part framework to achieve it… This is crucial aspect for any destination. That’s because tourism initiatives depend on attracting visitors. And SUCCESS depends on attracting the RIGHT TYPE of visitors. Making sure tourism generates positive impacts and business success. Often, entrepreneurs and governments focus too much on marketing and infrastructure. Leading to disorganized visitation, lack of influence on the the type of visitors, or no visitors at all. And mismanaged tourism harms host communities or trust on tourism. So, here is a 5-part framework for a market access program to attract the desired tourism: 🎯 1. DETERMINE THE TYPE OF TOURISM: decide what tourism you want to develop, before even deciding on the visitor profile and other elements. 🕸 2. PILOT NETWORK: identify a core network of partners and service providers to implement the offer. 🏷 3. CONFIGURE OFFER: configure or adjust the offer starting with available resources to fit the type of tourism you want. ✏ 4. The importance of having a dedicated intellectual property (IP) strategy was demonstrated recently by a tourist body in Ireland. A recently published report by Fáilte Ireland on the economic impact of the Wild Atlantic Way has found that the route is worth more than €3 billion per year in tourism revenue to communities along the western coast of Ireland, with about 35,000 jobs being created. WA Government serious about tourism investment The Australian Hotels Association (WA) has welcomed today’s groundbreaking announcement by the WA Government which will place tourism investment front and centre. The announcement of a dedicated Tourism Investment Committee of Cabinet demonstrates a renewed focus to one of Western Australia's most important industries. AHA(WA) CEO Bradley B Woods said the announcement was a major game changer for the Western Australian tourism industry. “The hotels and hospitality contribute to over 50 per cent of the tourism industry and a streamlined approvals processes will be very attractive for new development opportunities and investment in WA’s broad tourism industry”.
