In June 2021, to mark California's reopening, we hosted "REBIRTH," a dynamic industry event that spanned all 50,000 square feet of Ciel Creative Space. Our mission was clear: reunite the community after over a year of isolation. A major focus of REBIRTH was supporting local businesses that had suffered tremendous losses during the shelter-in-place orders. Partnering with a local, woman-of-color-owned event agency, Make it Mariko, we brought together dozens of local businesses, artists, caterers, musicians, and more to breathe life back into the space. It is always a great reminder of the passion that underscores the performing arts sector in Wales It's been a difficult year, in fact a difficult few years. funding for Arts in Wales has dropped by 27% since 2010 and the impact is being felt deeply by artists, organisations and communities. Amongst the empathetic conversations about difficult decisions to cut provision, reductions in operating hours and losing staff it can sometimes be hard to know where to look for hope and possibility. But there is. Wales is in a unique position to lead. We already do. From Cultural wellbeing as a core pillar of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act to www.hynt.co.uk leading the way for Accessibility across the UK. The evidence relating to the benefits of investment in arts and culture for a healthier, happier more prosperous nation is undenianle. As is the contribution made by the people I have been sitting with for the last 48 hours make on a daily basis. We can't run on passion alone.

Open calls for creative events for children and young people for Cruinniú na nÓg. The National Day of Creativity for children and young people, Cruinniú na nÓg, takes place on Saturday 15th June 2024. It aims to celebrate and encourage children and young people’s participation in culture and creativity by providing free, activities to them in their own area. Through this Open Call, Donegal County Council’s Culture and Creativity Team are seeking proposals from practitioners, community groups and organisations for creative events and activities that will provide opportunities for children and young people to make, do, try or see. In 2024, the vision for Cruinniú na nÓg in Donegal is to provide opportunities for participation to all children and young people in each Municipal District. It is hoped to achieve this in 2 ways through the Open Call Process: 1. Strand A - Proposals under €500. To maximise the number of opportunities for children and young people all over the county to participate in creative activities, we want to enable as many proposals as possible up to a maximum of €500. 2. Strand B - Proposals between €500 and €2,000. It is proposed to roll out one regional event in each of the five municipal districts (Donegal MD, Glenties MD, Stranorlar MD, Letterkenny MD and Inishowen MD). Proposals are welcome from all types of cultural practitioners, organisations and groups (such as Community Groups, Youth Work Groups, Sports Groups, History and Heritage Groups, Neighbourhood Groups). Proposals should be inclusive so that all children and young people within the community can participate. Organisations are encouraged to engage with individual artists/creatives/cultural practitioners to assist with your event. Submissions are welcome from communities in every location in the county, and activity must take place on June 15th June 2024. Proposals should address the suggestions gathered from children and young people across Donegal in a recent survey. Cruinniú na nÓg proposal forms and guidelines can be downloaded at www.wainfest.ie. Is art an important element in democratic life? Studies show that public art has a host of benefits for communities. Its community-building powers can combat feelings of anxiety and social isolation. When locals participate in creating public art, these effects are amplified. Will you get involved in helping to decide what the next public art installation in St Neots might be?

Many artistic practices in our Golden State of California are embedded in traditional cultures. Artists and culture bearers use traditional craft, music, and dance to foster healing and build community. Diverse neighborhoods across the state also benefit from ethnically-specific cultural organizations. In underserved areas where there is no access to art, culturally-specific organizations provide space for creative expression and healing to youth groups and immigrant communities. Cultural strategies such as placekeeping are driving social change, helping neighborhoods maintain their cultural character, and offsetting the effects of gentrification. Programs such as California Cultural Districts help preserve the diverse fabric of our state’s cultural diversity and promote cultural tourism. We need to fully fund programs like these to ensure our state does a good job of protecting cultural communities and diversity of expression.
