In this month's edition of Stroll Magazine, I shared three benefits of a #summer job for young people. Drawing on my own experience with #teenagers, three ways in which your #student can make the most of a seasonal work experience: 💰 Earn money and learn how to build a budget. A summer job could be the experience your teenager needs to open a bank account! 👥 Gain experience working with different types of people. Working with difficult customers, or alongside colleagues who have different work ethics can be a great skill-builder! 💼 Experience an industry or job that may inform a future career decision. A simple summer job may be either a stepping stone into a career path or the certainty your student needs to never do that job again. Skew’s mission is to deliver effective creative. That means we can’t just hand over work and wave goodbye without constantly learning from every project. By the time we're ready to deliver our creative work, our team has the most expertise in that brand at that moment in the world. It’s crazy to let that knowledge just walk away. So, our most effective work comes when we’re sticking around to see the implementation, iterate, and build on what we’ve done to help the deals get made. For us, Spring Fair is an opportunity to talk to the people on the front line. Designers and product developers that have put our work to use in their ranges. If we're only creating pretty pictures without ensuring their effectiveness, we're missing our mark. They may please people in the moment (that is important too), but who knows if they provide a return? We go there for feedback on what works, what doesn’t, and what the reaction is from the market. We put what we learn into the next project and the next. It’s great to catch up with old friends too. What was your best summer job? And what did you learn? Way back when, I worked in a women’s clothing store for several summers. And while my original focus was on socializing and the store discount, I learned lessons that have stayed with me to this day. First, it was an epic education in the world of corporate retail: why certain stores get attention and better inventory … and what that means for the employees. Second, it taught me how to be authentic in the workplace. Though back then, I was an extrovert, sales felt weird to me! But I learned that when I placed my focus on helping people–on being authentic–the sales followed. And while my career trajectory didn't include much in sales, the focus on helping people has served me in every job since. I believe it’s so important for teens to have summer jobs. It’s not just a chance to learn soft skills like time management and determination, they allow teens to test drive who they want to be and what they might desire in a career.  #SummerJobs #FirstJobs #retail #teens

What an incredible way to end the week! Today marks my 6 month anniversary as the Talent Acquisition Coordinator at Ann Summers 🐇 💕 Time really does fly by when you're passionate about what you do, and I couldn't be happier to be part of this amazing brand! ✨ During my 6 months here, I've celebrated some noteworthy accomplishments that I am incredibly proud of: ✅ Fortunately completed my probationary period! 👫 Built some valuable connections and relationships across the business! 💥 Played a pivotal role in planning and executing several Early Careers Assessment Days, recruiting 13 EXCEPTIONAL and TALENTED candidates that were ready to kickstart their career! 🌟 Sourced multiple brilliant candidates for our Head Office roles with 18 of them now thriving as my colleagues at Ann Summers and a few more starting with us in the next few weeks! 🌳 Experienced a lot of personal growth, shaping me into a more resilient and resourceful professional! And these are just a glimpse of the many highlights I could share. I can't wait to unveil what the next 6 months has in store for me. For some this might not seem a big deal but for me at the age of 26, uncertain about my career path, I felt a great deal of pressure and despite the challenges, I've now discovered my calling! 📣 Talent Acquisition resonates with me on so many levels, especially the joy of providing people the opportunities they once dreamt of.
