A #specad for #PizzaHut's New Pineapple Pizza Launch😉
Insight: People who enjoy pineapple pizza, or are even curious about it, get annoyed that others don't get it's all about personal taste. That's why pineapple pizza is such a big debate!
Big Idea: Showcasing people doing something over-the-top and unconventional like riding a unicycle. And connecting the Pizza Hut's new pizza to the action without revealing how it actually looks to create curiosity.

This week's #FridayFive - 5 things I learned this week:
1. Chicken tenders seem like one of those foods that have always been around, but in fact they first started to appear only 50 years ago. The story goes that a restaurant needed something to do with the tenderloin, which often came loose from the breast during prep, so the fried tender was born. Maeve Webster and I were just having a conversation about developing new protein cuts and seeking out opportunities to introduce more global cuts to the U.S. after having a pork secreto a few weeks back. Who will develop the next chicken tender? (https://lnkd.in/gDpiJaJc)
2. If you were making a list of America's 20 greatest dishes, what would you put on it? CNN took on the task, including everything from fried okra to eggs benedict to poke. As you can imagine, the comment section is full of edits, addendums, and opinions (https://lnkd.in/gx9FEAnH)
3. BopSpotter - a phone on a pole in San Francisco's Mission District set to Shazam any songs it hears, all day long. It's fascinating to see the surprising things people listen to at the oddest times (someone was listening to "Take Your Time Do It Right" by The SOS Band at 4:42am today). Have you thought through these intangible things that are reflective of your own environments? If you installed a WordSpotter, what do you think the top words people say in your office would be? What website do you think is the most-read on people's phones in your restaurant? (https://lnkd.in/gakX3gys).
4. The Golden Owl has been found! The world's longest treasure hunt - a golden owl in France that could be found after solving 11 puzzles in a book by the hunt's creator, Max Valentin - is over after 31 years. (https://lnkd.in/gCbd2Nnb). It got me thinking about a recent conversation about the many alternate reality games that were popular in the late '90s and early 2000s, like The Beast, a massive online game developed to promote the movie AI. (https://lnkd.in/gHw26QpF). With consumers needing to get out of their ruts and craving connection, could we introduce more mysteries and games?
5. In the article "The Elite College Students Who Can't Read Books," I learned that in 1976, 40% of high school seniors said they had read at least 6 books for fun in the last year, while 11.5% hadn't ready any. By 2022, the percentages had flipped. At a time when algorithms confirm our opinions and boredom is a foreign idea because TikTok is always at our fingertips, reading books to challenge ourselves (and grow), develop empathy for other perspectives and experiences, dive deep into texts to promote discovery and connect unwieldy ideas, and simply get lost in another world (its own form of self care) is more important than ever. There is an AI that can scan lego bricks and come up with designs for you to assemble.
There is another app that will scan your herbs and can tell if your oregano is cut with olive leaves.
In a recent survey 7 out of 61 samples of spices that were tested were cut with 'other stuff'.
I was listening to an investigator who worked the horse meat scandal talk on the radio about pizza.
Did you know that your average pizza has 40 ingredients from over 20 countries?
The lifetime journey of a pizza is next level complicated. If you're running a just-in-time pizza operation and your salami is in short supply, overstocking the margareta labels is a low risk packaging strategy.
Labelling stuff and tracking stuff is the easy when you know how. Capacity planning and budgeting, that is where things get messy.

What Chipotle and McDonald’s say about the consumer slowdown
Near Schumpeter’s home in Los Angeles are two fast-food restaurants almost kitty-corner to each other, as Americans quaintly put it. In different ways, both help explain one of the biggest puzzles in today’s business environment: the state of the American consumer. One is Chipotle Mexican Grill, a canteen-like restaurant famous for its burritos and bowls of chicken, the cheapest of which comes with rice, beans, salsa and various other toppings, and which costs $10.60. The other is McDonald’s, ...
