Great job Jaleel and Worldview Foundation. For too many young people, particularly Indigenous young people, they just don't have the support to get the 60-100 supervised driving hours up to get their licence.
Without hope, many people drive unlicenced, then get caught, then can't pay the fines, then end up in prison...which spirals into a life of hard substance addiction, heavier crime and even gang membership.
Further, how employable does this lad look? Rocking up to a construction job in that car, looking fit as a fiddle, big proud smile, with a good resume and tickets....hired immediately!
Do you think he needs public housing? Centrelink?...nope, he is empowered!
He and the other 45 youth we help each year are proud, excited to be part of the community and workforce, he has worked hard and has a lot to lose (like that nice truck) and a lot to look forward too. Which means that crime or antisocial behaviour is much less likely.
We don't need more research, more roundtables, more commissions, more departments.....we just need Government and corporates and the community to WALK WITH US and let us close the bloody gap and stop wasting billions of dollars a year on justice/incarceration, health etc. because it is possible if you support us as we are ready to scale Nationally!
This one means a lot….
Jaleel joined the Worldview Foundation intensive employment program in 2020 in the middle of COVID and made some good progress but had personal challenges to address so he stepped out of the program. He rejoined us again this year more prepared. He gained his P’s this week and he rocked up in this slick ute. Everyone is proud of him. These are the moments that matter. Overcoming challenges and achieving potential.
Thank you to our driver training supporters Calleo and Domino's for making this possible.
