As air temperatures begin to drop, you might be wondering how to correctly size your heating system. It's not just about the size of your project, there are several critical factors significantly influence the decision. 1)Building Construction: Ever thought about how the materials of your building impact your heating needs? From the insulation to the type of windows, the details matter. 2)Air Infiltration: It's not just about the air you're letting in intentionally. Unplanned air leaks can make a big difference in how much heat you need to keep things cozy. 3)Ventilation Requirements: Good air quality is essential, but it comes with its own set of heating challenges. Balancing fresh air with warmth is key. Understanding these elements can make or break the efficiency of your heating system. Have you encountered any surprises while dealing with these factors in your projects? Let us know if we can help! #BuildingDesign #EfficiencyFirst #SustainableDesign

Solving building performance issues for big energy users | Helping building owners, facility managers, HVAC designers, mechanical engineers, & contractors with HVAC equipment direct from the factory.
IS YOUR BUILDING SUFFERING FROM NEGATIVE PRESSURE? THE HIDDEN DANGERS YOU NEED TO KNOW | Negative pressure in buildings and homes can seriously pose several hidden dangers that should not be overlooked. Negative pressure occurs when more air is being exhausted from a building than is being supplied, causing outside air to be drawn in through any available openings or cracks. Negative pressure can lead to the following issues: - Difficulty opening exterior doors as the negative pressure essentially "sucks" them closed. This can damage door hardware and controls over time. - Infiltration of outdoor contaminants like dust, dirt, insects, and moisture into the building interior, creating an unhealthy and unsanitary environment. - Increased energy costs as the HVAC system works harder to condition the unconditioned outdoor air being drawn in. - Formation of hot and cold spots within the building due to uneven air distribution, potentially damaging equipment or products. - Increased humidity levels that can lead to mold growth, rust accumulation, and debris buildup. THE FIX 🔥Buildings should maintain slight positive pressure. 🔥Do this by ensuring enough supply of outdoor air and that it matches or exceeds exhaust levels. 🔥Proper building envelope sealing is also crucial to prevent uncontrolled air infiltration. #hvac #hvacdesign #buildingperformance #hvacsystems #IndoorAirQuality #FacilityManagement #energy #HVACcontrols #hvacmaintenance #EfficientComfort #HVACExpertise #commercialhvac #airconditioning #energysolutions #energyefficiency #heatingandcooling #BuildingOperations #HVACequipment #pressurization

It's only September, and my house is already reading 17 degrees! With the cold creeping in much sooner than expected (and hoped), many of us are starting to think about turning on the heating and closing up the windows! But speaking of windows—when we conduct Noise Impact Assessments, particularly for residential projects, we also need to assess internal noise levels with partially open windows. This is crucial to ensure that residents can enjoy fresh air or purge ventilation, after we've burnt the toast, without being assaulted by high levels of noise. Although open windows will soon seem like a distant memory, if not already, in this cold weather, it's still an important consideration. For those of us assessing noise, this is where recommended mitigation measures come into play—like trickle vents and Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR). These solutions help balance the need for fresh air with maintaining a quiet and calm internal environment. Stay warm, and don’t forget the importance of noise when looking at your development, even with windows closed! #ventilation #glazing #noiseimpactassessment #noise #winter #cold #summer #mitigation #planning #residential #development #construction #planningapplication #acoustics #noisesurvey

What most building owners and facility managers don’t understand is that active roof leaks are currently costing you significantly in energy loss from wet insulation. Putting off addressing this issue will lead to a financial disaster because the longer you wait the more insulation will be affected resulting in higher energy bills. Also, it’s important to consider that the trapped moisture will cause mold leading to respiratory issues. It will also cause the deck to rot out and damage the structure of the building. If decking needs replaced, now your looking at potential downtime of operations which could be a nightmare. All of this can be avoided if you take care of the issues as soon as they arrive and prevent a financial crisis. I hope this information added value to you! P.S. There are systems in the marketplace that will eliminate leaks for good without the stress of a replacement. Also this system has an R.O.I. which can be very beneficial to anyone paying the energy bills. You can learn more about these systems here. https://lnkd.in/ghy7hhJZ #greenenergy #commercialroofing #facilitymanagement #facilitysolutions #commercialbuilding #energyefficiency #energyfuture #commercialpropertymanagement #commercialpropertyinvestment

Common Mistake : Neglecting Thermal Insulation 🏠❄️ In Canada's colder climates, thermal insulation isn't just a recommendation—it’s essential. Failure to properly insulate homes or buildings can lead to significant energy losses, higher heating bills, and uncomfortable living environments. 💸🔥 🔍 Case Study: A residential project in a cold region skipped adequate insulation, leading to energy consumption spikes during winter. The building required continuous heating to maintain comfort, and over time, the walls began to show signs of wear due to condensation buildup, resulting in costly repairs. 🏚️ ✅ Solution: Investing in quality insulation materials for walls, roofs, and floors (such as spray foam, fiberglass, or rigid foam boards) can drastically reduce energy costs and increase the lifespan of your building. Pro Tip: Proper insulation can cut energy bills by up to 30%, while improving indoor comfort all year round. #CivilEngineering #ThermalInsulation #EnergyEfficiency #BuildingDesign #Construction #Sustainability

Ever seen one of these before? If you don't tend to frequent plant rooms, then it's unlikely! Many commercial buildings rely on closed-loop water systems for vital functions like heating and cooling. But even the most reliable systems can get sluggish when there's impurities in the water - things like sand, dirt, rust and even rotting organic matter 🤢 This unassuming device - a side stream filter - acts like a mini water treatment plant, constantly filtering a portion (5-15%) of the circulating water so that the complete system is filtered 2 or 3 times every 24 hours. Pretty smart! Just like any filter, these need a refresh to keep things running smoothly. Last week, David swapped out a used filter to prevent potential temperature control issues within the building. A small job with a big impact!
