I can relate to this idea of "refirement" over retirement. After being "bridged" to retirement at 53 from a large multinational—where retirement often came early at 55—I wasn’t ready to slow down either. I went on to work for two more companies before launching my own consulting business, Pondview Consulting, LLC. I had a lot of knowledge and experience. There were endless opportunities to teach what I knew about supply chain and procurement best practices to smaller companies who wanted to be more efficient and drive value from their supply chains. "Refiring" has given me the opportunity to reignite my passion for supply chain and procurement while creating something new and meaningful. Good news: There's a New Retirement. And it doesn't look like your parents’ version, thank God. The days of doing nothing,  sitting on a beach until you die? They're over. After 30+ years of grinding, people are choosing the New Retirement. They’re retiring TO work. That’s right. They’re not retiring FROM work. They’re retiring to a better FORM of work. Retirement ≠ The End It's a beautiful thing. Retirement, I mean. But it may not be the end. It could be the start of an entirely new chapter. I have seen a number of people in my network retire recently and some who are phasing their work schedules towards retirement. Here's a story: ➡️ Retired at 60. ➡️ Got bored at 61. No hobbies/bad English weather! ➡️ Got a four day a week job at 63. All of the sudden, he was enjoying the challenges of life again. Closing one chapter opens up the next. Retirement isn't an end point. It's a checkpoint. It's a chance to say goodbye to some things and open the door to some new things. Sometimes an opportunity to create a more balanced lifestyle and offer valuable skills picked up through a lifetime of work. It's time to celebrate that new beginning.
