I am so glad I lost. Sitting at the bar in DFW airport around 8 pm on a Monday and the phone rang. Now, it's very unlike me to 'have a beer' on a work trip but... My higher self knew something was coming. "You didn't get it!!!" The recruiter let me know I was the first-place loser. First placed loser for the job of my dreams. Chief Operating Officer for a sports franchise. Let's just say, I had a second beer before boarding the flight to San Jose. I still don't know what the job would have been like for me. Thank goodness. Less than 12 months later, the successful candidate left the position. Less than 6 months after that, the CEO was fired! A lucky escape. My buddy Ryan says, "The grass isn't always greener - it's just grass!" 😮 2-3 months after those Double IPA sips..., I mourned the loss of the opportunity. In American english, I was crushed. In my mother tongue. I was GUTTED! But here's why this story matters... ❌ No, I didn't get the job ❌ No, I don't know how long it would have lasted ❌ No, I didn't die! (we sometimes see things worse than they are 😉) As broken as I was that night, that hiring decision changed the course of my career and life. It became the launchpad for something better. Much better. For anyone seeking a way out of their current circumstances, whatever they are for you, know this... When you hear "No", you have two choices... 1️⃣ Ask yourself if this 'thing' is worth negotiating... 2️⃣ Identify why this "No" is setting you up for success. Either way, you're going to learn something incredibly valuable -- there are few lessons to be learned from success and fails like this one teach us the most. Nothing makes me happier than finding a candidate a job that they are so excited about. Also, helping a client find the right person gives you a sense of accomplishment. You know you have been successful when you place the candidate more than once and when you have repeat clients or your candidates become your clients. 🔸What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job? When it comes to recruiting, matching the candidate with the right job and having a sense of urgency. 🔸What's the one thing about you few people know? I was born in Battle Creek, Michigan so I’m not a true Southerner! 🔸As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? A flight attendant until I discovered I wasn’t tall enough! 🔸What's at the top of your bucket list? Traveling to Australia has always been at the top of my list which I was able to accomplish this year! My husband and I spent three weeks visiting Melbourne, Kangaroo Island, Adelaide, The Daintree Rainforest, The Great Barrier Reef and Sydney. In addition, we also spent a few days in New Zealand visiting Auckland and Marlborough. 🔸What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working? Depends on the time of year! During the Fall, you will find my husband and I watching UGA play football. Otherwise, give me a good book and a beach chair on Seagrove Beach. 🔸6 Degrees Group is all about connections between people. What’s your “6 degrees”? My business partner, Brian, was previously my boss and one of our managers made the suggestion that we should go into business together! Here’s the best career advice I can offer: Choose the right partner. Pick someone who is supportive on both the best and most challenging days. Find someone who inspires you with their work, ambition, and drive. Look for someone who motivates you to give your all and do your best, no matter the situation. Choose someone who makes you laugh just by being themselves. Seek someone whose actions speak louder than words. I’ve found all of this and so much more in Justin. Here’s to a lifetime of climbing mountains and reaching new heights together. 💙

For 26 years, I ran in the corporate rat race. I got bigger titles. I made more money. I had more responsibility. I was up at the crack of dawn. I was on planes, trains and automobiles. I spent 170 days a year on the road. (Not too many nights. I like sleeping in my own bed) I made a hard choice along the way & changed my path. I decided to build my own path to freedom. I chose to start my own company. And guess what? This path is a different kind of hard. There’s loads of uncertainty. Everyone looks to me for making decisions. No my decisions affect other people & their families. Truth be told. It gets my blood flowing & makes my heart happy. And it's hard! Which hard are you choosing? Keeping your 9-5 is noble. Heck I did it for 26 years. If you stay on that path, enjoy the ride! And know how you’ll feel when your career is done. If you're feeling 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 with your 9-5 maybe it's time to choose a different hard? I've been down both paths and chose my hard. This 2024, is it time for you to pick a new path too? I was born and raised in New York. It was my comfort zone. All my family and friends were there, and I worked a 9 to 5 job. But I was tired of living paycheck to paycheck. I felt stuck in the same routine, and I knew I needed a change. I had mentors in California and Vancouver who were teaching me about sales and how to be financially free. Their guidance opened my eyes to new possibilities. I started dreaming of a better life, but taking the leap was scary. One day, my mentor in California offered me a job. The catch? I had to be there in 3 days. It was a now-or-never moment. The thought of leaving everything I knew behind was terrifying, but I knew it was a chance to break free and chase my dreams. In a split second, I made the decision. I packed my bags, said goodbye to my family and friends, and drove across the country to California. I hardly knew anyone there, but I was ready for a fresh start and a new life. Taking risks and stepping out of your comfort zone is where real growth happens. Leaving New York wasn't easy, but it was the best decision I ever made. It taught me that sometimes, you have to let go of the familiar to reach new heights and discover your true potential.
