🌟 Celebrating Dorset Blind Association : A Beacon of Hope and Support 🌟 Dorset Blind Association, serving the beautiful county of Dorset, is a testament to resilience and dedication in aiding individuals with visual impairments. This incredible organisation is committed to helping those with a range of visual challenges, from minor impairments to complete blindness, empowering them to lead independent and fulfilling lives. 🤍 The Association's work is pivotal in providing practical and emotional support to those affected by sight loss. They create an environment where individuals can overcome the challenges of visual impairment and embrace life's opportunities with confidence and independence. ✨ One of the Association's key strengths is its ability to adapt and innovate. Recognising the diverse needs of their members, they have embraced a variety of methods to connect and support their community. This includes traditional in-person gatherings like coffee mornings, which foster a sense of belonging and provide a platform for sharing experiences and advice. 🗣 Dorset Blind Association's commitment to inclusion is reflected in their efforts to reach individuals across Dorset, regardless of their location. This outreach is vital, particularly for members who are homebound or live in remote areas. By ensuring that no one is left behind, they have created a support network that is both far-reaching and deeply impactful. 🏡 The Association's journey, especially during challenging times, is a remarkable story of overcoming obstacles to continue providing critical services. Their resilience in adapting to changing circumstances and finding innovative solutions has ensured that their members continue to receive the support they need. 💪 #DorsetBlindAssociation #VisualImpairmentSupport #CommunityEmpowerment

Displacement and Do no Harm Whilst we want to see services accessible to local communities. Can they be too close? When they are too close to communities might that unintentionally displace the function of peers & communities & reduce open spaces for associational life? I notice frequently when people talk about communities they really mean organisations based in the community. Usually those organisations have their hands tied through contracts & commissions There’s nothing like the authenticity of a group of citizens who can speak honestly. I’m really loving seeing what’s growing in the community led peer support networks. What happens when we open up a building and prioritise associational life. And, resist the temptation to fill it with services and instead pay attention to how people begin to serve each other in solidarity, with reciprocity, care and dare I say it, love - rekindling their natural functions. We’ll be starting a process of reflection and story gathering with community members soon and I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing what emerges. #communityled #peersupport #ABCD

If you know us, you’ll know we are passionate about preventative approaches to health, and we believe the voluntary and community sector (VCS) are best placed to address many of the root causes of the issues that affect communities the most. ❤️🩹 So, you can imagine how thrilled we are to be part of MyEnds: a London-wide programme that empowers grassroots organisations taking hyper-local and preventative approaches to support young people at risk or affected by violence, delivered by London's Violence Reduction Unit. 🧩 Over the past few months, CSC has been facilitating workshops with 9 borough-based consortiums* funded by MyEnds to co-produce Community Needs Assessments (CNA). Through the process, we've worked with over 100 youth practitioners to understand how they can leverage community assets (e.g. statutory and VCS partners, key infrastructures, community spaces) and open-source data to maximise the impact of their interventions. *Boroughs include Barking & Dagenham, Brent, Croydon, Haringey, Islington, Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark, and Tower Hamlets. 📊 The outputs of the CNA include site-level reports and a digital mapping tool developed with our technical partner, plinth. Once finalised, we will hand over the tool to the consortiums to own and update over the two-year delivery period. 💫 We're loving our role nourishing creative partnerships between grassroots organisations. Grassroots organisations are the best (read our blog on why here: https://lnkd.in/dqFZAVym) and when they come together, it’s magic 💫 ❤️ Like if you agree that grassroots organisations need to be supported and leveraged across all contexts!

Community engagement is critical to the success of interventions like PMC, to promote target behaviors, foster community ownership, and enable feedback between caregivers, community members, providers, and decision-makers at all levels of the health system. At the beginning of the project, human-centered design techniques were used to elevate the voices and experiences of key community stakeholders in each partner country. More than one year into PMC implementation through Plus Project, uptake is high and effective strategies are in place to reach children lost to follow-up because of early community buy-in. “I believe many people care and would like to help make change, yet we are still using limited tools from the toolbox when we don’t have to. We recognize that this work is difficult and that the City and organizations aren’t opposed to these principles, but rather they aren’t built to commit to and do this work,” Dr. Bill McKinney writes in a guest commentary for the Philadelphia Citizen. “While Kensington continues to face significant short- and long-term challenges, we also stand at a moment of opportunity to mobilize a robust, resource rich and engaged civic network to bring about sustained outcomes and solutions, if only those in the private and public sector would commit to aligning their strategies with the Kensington communities self-determined priorities and preliminary strategies.” In a new report, Co-Creating Kensington: Alignment, we give recommendations and examples for how government and private entities can adopt trauma-informed, participatory, and comprehensive models of change to bring about sustained outcomes and solutions in Kensington and ensure that residents are You can read Dr. Bill McKinney’s full guest commentary "A Guide for Co-Creating Kensington's Future" for the Philadelphia Citizen here (linked in bio): https://lnkd.in/egVmJ99n and the full report at https://lnkd.in/eyura-J6. #communitydriven #participatory #traumainformed #communitydevelopment

Today is a special day to celebrate our senior citizens. Imagine a lively community event where seniors share their amazing stories with the younger generation, that day is today. This is an opportunity to show them how much we appreciate and value the wisdom they bring to our families and communities. To make the day truly memorable, consider these ideas: 1. Plan a picnic in a park with wheelchair-friendly paths. 2. Host a family gathering where everyone shares kind words and gratitude. 3. Encourage seniors to join local events or share their stories online to help them feel connected and celebrated. Let’s make National Senior Citizens Day a day filled with love, respect, and joy. Celebrate the seniors in your life and make today a special occasion that shows how much we care and admire them.

We believe that care is too often seen as something that is sidelined from our economy and by default society. It is presented as transactional, with a fixed value (monetary). It rarely connects to power, community and citizenship. This blog by Simon Duffy of Citizen Network really resonated for us.
