Power...... The Rolls-Royce (Bristol Siddeley) Snecma, Olympus 593 engine. Four fitted to the Anglo-French Concorde. Each engine produces over 38,000lbs of thrust with re-heat on take-off, accelerating Concorde at an average fully loaded weight of 182 tonnes to a rotation speed of 250mph in around 40 seconds. Yet during the supercruse at Mach Two, around 1350mph the engines are only providing around 35% of the thrust, the remaining thrust is down to the very clever intake system, which slows down the air entering by 1000mph in just 11 feet. Overture is designed to accommodate 64-80 passengers at speeds of Mach 1.7, with prominent airlines like American Airlines, United Airlines, and Japan Airlines already expressing interest through substantial orders and pre-orders. Captain Mike Bannister, former chief Concorde pilot for British Airways, hailed the XB-1's flight as a significant milestone towards sustainable supersonic travel, echoing the anticipation for a successor to Concorde. Bannister's sentiments reflect the industry's long-awaited quest for environmentally friendly supersonic travel, with Boom's Overture positioned as a promising candidate. Today at the Farnborough International Airshow, we announced several major milestones across our Overture, Symphony, and XB-1 programs. This included the unveiling of Overture’s flight deck, Symphony’s rapid advancement into engine testing, and XB-1’s progress toward supersonic flight. 🚨Reinvented the cockpit with all-new flight deck for Overture.   🚨Advanced Symphony engine into rig testing. 🚨Full-scale engine core to be operational in 2025. 🚨Expanded partnership with StandardAero to include engine assembly in San Antonio, Texas.  🚨Added industry leaders Universal Avionics and ATI to Boom’s global supplier network. 🚨Shared XB-1 is on track for supersonic flight by year-end with flight two upcoming. These announcements come on the heels of accelerating momentum. In June, we completed construction on the Overture Superfactory in Greensboro, North Carolina. New #aircraft must demonstrate safe flight behaviour even under #icing conditions. This applies without limitations – that is, even if the anti-icing systems fail. ✈ 🌨 ❄ This proof of certification is currently provided by prescribed #flight tests with installed, artificial ice accumulations in various icing conditions at the relevant locations. We have carried out flight tests with its In-flight Systems and Technology Airborne Research (#ISTAR) aircraft as part of the European aviation research programme Clean Sky 2 (2013 to 2024), in collaboration with Dassault Aviation. The aim of these flight tests, which were conducted in 2023, was to investigate the changes in flight behaviour and airflow data caused by the artificial ice accumulations. In the long term, the goal is to move towards #virtual certification. The first step is to prove that the changes in flight behaviour and the airflow around the aircraft can be predicted with numerical accuracy using the ice accumulations. This proof is a prerequisite for aeronautics authorities to be able to accept virtual proofs for certification in the future. This flight campaign has successfully generated valuable measurement data, which are now being analysed.
