Just published "Intelligent O-RAN Beyond 5G: Architecture, Use Cases, Challenges, and Opportunities", a research paper looking to provide insights and guidance about the paradigm shift brought by O-RAN in order to create open, softwarized, intelligent and optimized networks. We provide an overview of the O-RAN RICs and AI/ML efforts in the O-RAN context, driven by the use cases and combinations of xApps/rApps. And position O-RAN within the context of end-to-end network slices. The paper also discusses some research challenges relevant to advance the intelligence aspects, and presents large-scale research platforms to conduct the research.
