This is how you transition from work to home. Did you have a crazy day? We all have crazy days. We're knowledge workers. This is what it is. We have so many things on our To Do List, more than we can ever get done. So how do we wind down our day and actually transition to home? 3 simple steps #1 Reflect on your day. How did it go, what worked, what didn't work, What do you want to change? If you don't like how your day is going, you've got to make a shift. Make a course correction. So step number one is reflection #2. You've got to close the loops. You have so many things going, so many things undone as you get to the end of your day. The only way you were going to have emotional freedom tonight is if you get those out of your head and into a list. Get it down on paper. Once you do that, get it to your calendar. Your calendar is how you make things happen. If you get a meeting appointment, you show up for that meeting. Get the things out of your head that are undone. Get them to your calendar tomorrow. Why does that work? Because once they're on your calendar tomorrow, you know you're going to take care of them. You show up to meeting appointments when you get invited, you're going to show up to these tasks if they show up on your calendar. So close the loop, get it out of your head and get it into the system so you don't have to think about it #3 commit to your plan tomorrow. Here's how you do that. You look at your calendar and look at all of those items. You prioritize. Think about them, think about what needs to happen. Think about the value of them. Why did you put them on your calendar in the 1st place? All of this processing helps it get it out of your head and again back into the system. It allows you to close down knowing you. Have a good plan tomorrow that you can make happen. And what do you get if you do all these things, If you reflect on your day, if you close all the loops, if you commit to the plan, you get emotional freedom. You shut your laptop and you can go be free to whatever you want to do tonight. Your choice, It's up to you. Work has a place and you've put it in a system so you don't have to worry about it till tomorrow and you can be fully present to your life at home.
