Mondays usually mark a new beginning, a new week, a new day. Today, my Monday also marked my first day in my new role, as I join the amazing team of EMEA Regional Policy Leads at TikTok. #AlwaysDay1 In just short of two years, I managed our product policy for a region I care deeply about and learnt so much from every single interaction I had, both internally and externally. As I reflect, I realise I also learnt so much about myself in the process. Knowing I am resilient in the face of challenges and change, resourceful when thinking outside the box is needed, and reliable to get the job done and support the team are just a few things I will lean on in this new chapter of mine. Starting from today, I get to lead and manage our talented and dedicated team of policy professionals and technologists spanning across regions such as Türkiye, MENA, SSA and more, and I couldn’t be more proud of the work we do! I am excited to champion and advocate for my team while getting to support them on their journey of becoming the best version of themselves. Company culture is more than ping pong tables and free food! I worked at Airbnb, Facebook, and Netflix for 7 years and learned a ton about culture! Meta/Facebook had “move fast and break things" - This caused an increase in shipping speed but at the cost of quality Netflix’s “freedom and responsibility” - This caused an increase in ownership at the expense of collaboration Airbnb’s “be a host” - This cause an increase in kindness at the expense of candor Every cultural tenet has benefits and drawbacks!
