Happy to share the work by Fernando Bravo showing the profound impact of music on visual perception and emotional processing!
Using fMRI during naturalistic film viewing, we found that dissonant music leads to more negatively valenced emotional inferences. The modulation of early visual processing by tonal dissonance emphasizes how our brains integrate sound to interpret emotions and intentions: https://lnkd.in/edGRCkd7

where we talked about whether or not #5G is ready for the Internet of #Musical#Things (#IoMusT) and #networked#musical#performances?
The answer keeps being "it depends". In our recent study, targeting a commercial 5G #NSA and a private MEC-endowed 5G #SA architecture, we experimentally show that the latter is instrumental to ensuring the < 30 ms end-to-end delays and low error probabilities that enable proper coordinations among remote musicians.
The paper "Assessing a Private 5G SA and a Public 5G NSA Architecture for Networked Music Performances," co-authored by Luca Turchet and myself, is now available on IEEE Xplore. The work was presented at the 4th IEEE Symposium on the Internet of Sounds, Pisa, Italy, Oct. 2023.

“The complexity of the music was directly related to the complexity of the world, and was intend to shift the position of the audience from one of passive listening to active care and attention” - p233
Ever get #curious why #art#creativity#disruption etc are actively discouraged in Western business as usual?
Part of the answer is above. How different can we be and can we reimagine?
Pondering on LinkedIn this morning and wondering about it’s ghost controllers (the algorithms and the symbiotic army of experts).
Perhaps we can learn something about creativity and artistry from the struggles being encountered by creatives in the world of music:
"Entertainment gives you exactly what you want.
But the artist doesn't operate like that. The artist makes demands on you.
That's the essence of that artistic experience." Ted Gioia

A new article by Matthias Frank and I has just been published open access by the Journal of New Music Research. The article is titled: "Entropy, pitch, and noise: organisation and disorganisation in the perception of closure for different types of spectra." and aims to mark an important milestone for music theory, highlighting perceptual mechanisms in timbre perception that may have had impact in the formation of innovative musical techniques in New Music.
Here the link to the article, for those interested in the topic: https://lnkd.in/dUDHUpAK
To be read in the style of Morgan Freeman:
And so it begins.....
In the vast expanse of the digital cosmos, where sound waves intertwine with the essence of technology, a new force emerges...'SoundScapes'. This album is a stunning collection of emotive sonic synthesis and arrangements, designed to enhance the ever exciting world of technology.
'SoundScapes' is a beacon for shows like Click, The Gadget Show, Future Tech Now, and Beyond Innovation. Each note is a whisper of the unknown, each beat a step towards a horizon where music and technology merge seamlessly.
In this world, synthesizers are the storytellers, percussion the heartbeat, and granular synthesis the very fabric of reality. SoundScapes begins where innovation meets emotion, and where every moment is a discovery.

Wonderful take on #ESC#Nemo from Christian Gertsch (thank you Hansjürg Lusti for pointing this out to me) with reference to my hearth-topic #team#psychologicalsafety. (The article describes the safe space that apparently facilitated the songwriting process leading up to #thecode):
<...The description of the space that the four created is ‘team psychological safety’. Harvard professor Amy Edmondson coined the term and explains it like this: ‘It’s a climate in which it’s OK to take risks, to express ideas and concerns, to speak up with questions, and to admit mistakes.’
Everyone should be able to work in an environment in which they feel psychologically safe, but it is shockingly rare. Such a climate isn’t easy to set up. ‘Psychological safety is not something you can impose on a group from the outside. It’s an emergent property within the group,’ says Amy Edmondson. ‘The team leaders have the greatest influence, followed by the other members of the group. The more respect and curiosity they show each other, the more a sense of belonging is created, which is a prerequisite for us to take risks. Something like: If I fall trying this out, you’ll catch me.’
That’s how ‘The Code’ was created: under pressure, but with the feeling that the others would catch another member if they fell. Someone kept writing if another came up against a wall.>

Out now: my profile of Swiss artist Nemo who performs at European Song Contest in Malmö this Saturday.
Nemo’s song will not only break the code but also most likely your heart.
