Many families throughout the United States use family, friend, and neighbor (FFN) care. FFN providers are essential members in the early childhood education (ECE) ecosystem, along with licensed, center-based and home-based care. However, FFN providers and the strengths and contributions they offer to families and children are often overlooked by policymakers and other stakeholders because they frequently operate outside of public systems. #ICYMI This study identifies the strengths and limitations of FFN care and the needs of FFN providers.➡️ https://lnkd.in/eVNYPD9x

🗒️ In February 2024, we responded to the Education Select Committee’s call for evidence & we gathered views from care-experienced young people via a survey. We found that: ❗ The care system is overwhelmed, with increasing number of children in care and a lack of appropriate homes able to adequately meet their needs. ❗ Young people leaving the care system face a care cliff, often forced to become independent before they are ready and without the support they need to make a positive start to adulthood. ❗ The Government’s proposed reforms do not go fast or far enough to address the disparities and disadvantages facing care-experienced children and young people ⬇️ Read our full response: https://lnkd.in/dkKRgVjm

The 2023 Iowa Child Care Workforce Study that Iowa AEYC recently released in conjunction with I2D2 is a comprehensive study that brings together the voices of over 4,500 child care providers in Iowa. One of the major findings of the study was that many providers are interested in earning more education, but they perceive several barriers to earning it, including class costs and schedule. Nevertheless, the study also found that higher degrees lead to higher pay. See more below about Brief 3: Overview of Education.

Former Head of Legal & Policy at Independent School Inspectorate. Author: A Practical Guide to the Independent School Standards.
Guidance seems to be pouring out of the DfE this week. This one will be a useful reminder for all schools: Arranging education for children who cannot attend school because of health needs. For example: · LAs are under a duty to arrange education suitable alternative education for children who cannot attend school because of a physical or mental health need, no matter whether their usual school is state maintained, an academy or independent (section 19 Education Act 1996). · LAs should have a public policy statement and a named officer who is responsible. · Schools are also encouraged to name a person to be responsible for the education of children with health needs. · Schools are under a duty to inform the LA of pupils who are not attending school regularly and the grounds for deleting pupils from the admissions register are tightly regulated (Pupil registration regs). · Individual healthcare plans may be useful. · Reasonable adjustments may be needed for pupils with disabilities. · The important role of parents and of listening to children are both recognised. · As ever, effective collaboration between agencies is essential. From my perspective, it is good to see the role of hospital education recognised as part of the matrix of provision for these children - and perhaps there could be scope to explore more creative ways to use that provision in future. https://lnkd.in/eNgVqMK5
