Coming back up for air after a truly incredible Couture 2024 (thank you to everyone who stopped by the ArunAshi salon, to view the collection, to say hello or shared a drink with us!). As it always does, the show sparked so many interesting conversations and ideas about the state of the high jewelry industry, which I’m sure I’ll be sharing thoughts on over the next few weeks. But, for now, I wanted to share two things I took away from this year’s show. 👇🏽 → Retailers are more interested than ever in designs with a strong point of view. Pieces need to be more than simply beautiful — everything you do, from individual designs to your overarching brand needs to tell a compelling story that retailers, and their customers, can lose themselves within. (It’s a good thing we’ve always had this point of view at ArunAshi!) → Alternative mediums are on the rise. I noticed a growing interest from retailers in our designs using alternative and unique mediums like carbon fiber, titanium, and corian. Using unique mediums has always been a part of the ArunAshi brand DNA, and it is fantastic to see the industry be receptive to jewelry beyond traditional gold and diamonds. I’d love to keep the conversations started at Couture going. So tell me, what did you take away from the show? 

𝗛𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 - 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 The term haute couture is French, "haute" meaning "high" or "elegant," and "couture" translating to "sewing" or "dressmaking." The term haute couture generally refers to a specific type of upper garment common in Europe during the 16th to the 18th century, or to the upper portion of a modern dress to distinguish it from the skirt and sleeves. Beginning in the mid-nineteenth century, Paris became the centre of a growing industry that focused on making outfits from high-quality, expensive, often unusual fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail and finished by the most experienced and capable of sewers—often using time-consuming, hand-executed techniques. Couture translates literally from French as "dressmaking", sewing, or needlework and is also used as a common abbreviation of haute couture and can often refer to the same thing in spirit.

BESPOKE vs COUTURE Hello Everyone.... Today, I want to answer one frequently asked question, which is, "what's the difference between 'bespoke tailoring' and 'couture'. 'Bespoke' and 'couture' are both terms often associated with high-end fashion, but they have distinct differences: BESPOKE Bespoke refers to clothing that is made to order, tailored specifically to an individual's measurements and preferences. It allows clients to choose fabrics, styles, and other details to create a unique design/outfit. Bespoke pieces/outfits are typically crafted with a high level of attention to detail and craftsmanship. Although bespoke is commonly used for tailored suits and formal wear, it's now a term also used for any made to measure outfit for any occasion from bridal to evening wears. COUTURE Couture is the highest level of fashion design and production, often synonymous with haute couture. Couture garments are handcrafted by skilled artisans, with extreme attention to detail. They are limited in number and highly exclusive, often one-of-a-kind pieces. Couture is typically associated with prestigious fashion houses and designer labels. So, while both bespoke and couture involve custom-made outfits, couture takes customization to an even higher level of exclusivity, craftsmanship, and artistry. It's often reserved for runway shows and red-carpet events and is a hallmark of luxury fashion. Bespoke, while also offering personalized tailoring, is more accessible and versatile, encompassing a wider range of clothing types beyond high fashion. In recent times, bespoke tailoring brands also partake in runway shows and are worn on red-carpets here in Nigeria and abroad, so for me, the major difference is exclusivity.

🚩 Horsepower meets Haute Couture. The Pagani Huayra was first teased online in January 2011, with its official debut shortly after in February 2011. Meaning the Pagani Huayra has been in existence for 13 years. In typical Pagani fashion, Horacio produced a 'Final Coupé, the Pagani Huayra L'Ultimo, and then a "Final Final' one-off (which became five), the Pagani Huayra Codalunga. Pagani's special projects department, Grandi Complicazion, developed the Codalunga as a long-tail version of the mid-engine carbon-bodied hypercar. No more 'Finals', now a new car, the Pagani C10 or Code 10, signifying Horacio's tenth wonder of the world. Officially unveiled on September 12, 2023. Sporting a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 engine from Mercedes-AMG. With a price of over $2 million, limited to 100 exclusive examples, all sold. Rumour has it that they all had wealthy homes before the C10 was officially announced. Every curve is a love letter to speed and style. The design is said to be inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's studies on aerodynamics and nature, particularly the golden ratio. Wow! Leonardo was intrigued by the mathematical concept of the golden ratio, also known as the Divine Proportion or Phi. Mr da Vinci incorporated the golden ratio into his artistic works, believing it represents aesthetic perfection and harmony in nature. No points for guessing the identity of Code 10: The Utopia.
