Yesterday, I had the opportunity of attending the Laing Buisson Social Care Summit in London, it was a fantastic opportunity to gain industry knowledge. It was truly rewarding to connect with influential figures in our field such as Amrit Dhaliwal QFP, Luke House, Martin Jones MBE, Lynn Laughland MSc MIoD, John Powell FRSA who all share really valuable insights.
One of the key takeaways for me was the shift in conversation from merely digitising paperwork to leveraging technology for efficiency, savings, compliance, and growth. It's clear that care providers are seeking a holistic approach to data insights, with a strong emphasis on using data and AI to save staff time and enhance compliance, which continues to be a major concern.
A significant topic was the better usage of data, from assessment and planning to care reviews and compliance. The importance of sharing data between local authorities, the NHS, and care providers was highlighted as a way to avoid redundant patient assessments. Birdie Care's Q-Score was mentioned as a valuable tool for improving operations and supporting the new CQC Single Assessment Framework, which is essential in today's regulatory environment.
I found it particularly interesting to see the growing focus on live-in and complex care services, despite ongoing recruitment challenges due to overseas hiring and retention concerns.
It was also noteworthy that the upcoming general election was a hot topic, with the "100-day government plan in social care" gaining traction.
Regarding the CQC, there's a significant backlog, with 49% of providers having outdated or pending inspections. This underscores the necessity of digital records and technology to manage these inspection backlogs effectively.
Thanks to our CEO, Max Parmentier for taking part in the Technology panel, the conversations were promising and insightful.
Overall, it was a productive day, and I'm excited about the future of our industry. Birdie is committed to staying at the forefront of these developments and supporting care providers in their journey towards more efficient, compliant, and data-driven care.
