A terrific commentary from Julie Fritz. The paradigm of care delivery is changing, and with it are the methods of how patients access quality care. The mechanism of care delivery, along with structure and match between parties involved needs to be modernized as well. Hybrid delivery of care should involve bidirectional stratification and an objective match process to maximize contextual factors leading to the therapeutic alliance. "The clinical skills necessary to form effective collaborative relationships with patients are not established, but it is clear that developing core competencies that optimize person-centered care will require different training strategies for clinicians and students at educational institutions." "The challenge in shifting providers’ approach to patients from a perspective of fixing structural/mechanical anomalies to developing effective partnerships that help people engage in valued activities should not be underestimated as it involves different skills as well as a shift in professional identity." 🏥 Behavioral Science in the OR: Revolutionizing Teamwork and Patient Care Amazing research teams from Yale School of Medicine and UChicago Medicine used innovative methods (i.e., real-time, continuous data collection) to help answer a big question: how do surgical team dynamics shape patient outcomes? 📊 Some key findings: (1) Real-time #feedback in high-pressure environments is both possible and valuable (2) Higher #nurse specialization correlates with greater team satisfaction (3) Improved teamwork satisfaction links to shorter hospital stays for #patients Suggesting that... ✅ Continuous feedback is possible: This insight opens new avenues for understanding team dynamics across sectors. ✅ Specialization counts: Targeted training enhances team performance significantly. ✅ A satisfaction-performance link exists: Investing in team dynamics yields tangible benefits in patient care. Above the obvious contributions, I love this work because it highlights a core tenet of #BSci: even in life-or-death scenarios, behavioral outcomes are multi-causal and context-dependent. Behavior does not occur within a vacuum. This work is a powerful demonstration of how #BSci can drive meaningful improvements in #healthcare delivery and organizational performance.
