It’s been a busy week for The Parenthood as we continue to advocate for change! We had productive meetings in Canberra discussing the findings of our new report, IMPACTFUL, alongside Zachary Whale from Grain Growers with Jason Clare, Anne Webster, and other key decision-makers. Our report sheds light on the urgent need for accessible and affordable early childhood education and care (ECEC) in regional, rural, and remote Australia. Months of research and community engagement have highlighted the significant gaps in services and their impact on children, families, and the future of these communities. We’ll keep pushing for solutions—because every child deserves access to quality ECEC. Read the report here: https://buff.ly/3Xj2hci

Raise Up Oregon: A Statewide Early Childhood System Plan 2024-2028 is grounded in equity, the science of child development, and a firm understanding that it takes leaders from early care and education, health, higher education and workforce development, housing, human services, and public education—along with families, communities, and the public and private sectors—to work together during this critical period of children’s lives. This plan outlines meaningful actions to better serve the 43,000 children born each year in Oregon and their families. ❝The truth is, community colleges and early care and education are extremely vital and worthy in their own rights, providing foundational support to children, families, and students,❞ Warfield said. ❝They are distinct and noble spheres that increasingly require our collective attention and advocacy, and we must find common ground to allow the two to lift one another up for the sake of children’s health, family well-being, and economic mobility.❞ Read more: https://lnkd.in/gQcSw7Py

We have a collective responsibility to our children, to our communities , and to future generations. Using a Community Systems Approach offers holistic, collaborative support tailored to local contexts, leading to sustainable solutions and positive long-term impacts. We need to emphasize stakeholder collaboration, address systemic issues, and ensure better outcomes for children and families. We can do It! #equitableinvolvement #communityinvestment #enduringinvestment
"A core principle of child development is the strong belief that the developing child is shaped by their family, the surrounding community and the policies that affect them," writes SCEC Senior Advisor Joan Lombardi. "There is something special that happens in a community when people pull together across programs and services and work for a common goal." But how do we make sure the “community early childhood systems” in our neighborhoods are working towards the right goal, and are adequately funded? https://lnkd.in/gKKiS6dQ

As we celebrate this year's U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Minority Health Month theme, Be the Source for Better Health: Improving Health Outcomes Through Our Cultures, Communities, and Connections, we lift up our partners at Porter-Leath and the Early Success Coalition as they work to reduce health disparities through person- and family-centered approaches that address social drivers of health (SDOH) disproportionately burdening communities of color. Evidence-based early home visitation (EBHV) improves the health and well-being of young children and their families. In particular, culturally congruent EHBV in partnership with responsive community resources can effectively address racial and ethnic health disparities. We celebrate the ESC's Shelby County partners for their ongoing commitment to strengthen local EBHV programs and connections. These resources nurture the physical, mental, and social health of women facing health disparities—a disproportionate share of whom are women of color. 🔗 Learn more about the ESC and explore their library of resources: earlysuccesscoalition.com/ #MinorityHealthEquity #NMHM24 #PersonCenteredCare #EarlySuccessCoalition

Research on human development shows health in the first few years of a child’s life is crucial for a lifetime of wellness. Early experiences shape understanding of the world, children's position in it, and how they can later contribute to society. The Together For Kids Coalition supports "the collaborative system that ensures a healthy start for every child" by preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES). They work to ensure Massachusetts policymakers invest in "universal high quality affordable early education and care, family engagement, and engaging businesses and the whole community in supporting families and children." https://lnkd.in/dhTFEEf

In a new report from Urban Institute, my colleagues and I scanned initiatives in Massachusetts that coordinate the delivery of early childhood programs and services for families with young #children from #birth to age 5. We found: -More than 50 separate programs and initiatives are working to coordinate services for families -Coordination is typically facilitated through a "no-wrong-door" approach and/or the co-location of services in a "hub" -These initiatives are not cohesively linked together and fewer options exist in rural areas, leaving many families without support to navigate needed services. -Eligibility for service coordination varies and some groups, such as those learning English, refugee and immigrant parents, and young parents, are rarely identified as prioritized populations. We interpret these findings in the context of research on early childhood services and make recommendations based on these and additional learnings gathered from parents, providers, and system leaders: https://lnkd.in/gU4sA6Ux Eve Mefferd, Diane S., Kimberly D.
