Our parents spend a lifetime caring for us; it's only right we return the favor. These are not trick questions, just a starting point for open dialogue. Medical emergencies are already stressful enough; don't allow them to be even more stressful due to a lack of a decisionmaker or instruction. The Kidney PATIENT Act (H.R. 5074 & S. 4510) is a crucial piece of legislation addressing the disparities in kidney care and improving access to life-saving treatments. By supporting this bill, Medicare Part D coverage would be extended to include oral medications, ensuring more individuals have access to the needed medications. You can make a difference by signing the petition supporting this bill at https://chng.it/pVDznydN7S. Informed decision-making for those with a life-limiting condition is an essential component of the provider/patient relationship. Every patient needs to have a chance to actively participate in the decision-making process and the right to an advance directive. Accepting or refusing treatment is universally done through “informed consent”. Informed consent is important because it is a linchpin when fully understanding the benefits, risks, and potential harm of various options and treatments under consideration. Knowledge is power and too often we see that these discussions are not fully taking place when it is well known that curative treatments are no longer an option. I am calling on all healthcare providers to include a discussion about the hospice benefit when advising seriously ill patients to continue with their current treatment plan or to choose no treatment other than appropriate comfort care. Not only is informed consent an ethical obligation, it is a legal one. Every patient has the right to seek information and have all their questions answered before accepting a procedure or medical treatment. Hospice care is no exception. #AdvanceDirectives #hospice #informedconsent #patientrights

Sandi Cassese RN, MSN, CNS, you are right. Engaging patients in informed decision-making, especially in life-limiting conditions, is crucial for upholding their rights and ensuring ethical and legal obligations are met. Healthcare providers must prioritize discussions about hospice benefits alongside treatment options to empower patients with comprehensive information and support. #PatientEmpowerment #InformedDecisionMaking

This is how our signature Door-Through-Door service looks: our drivers make sure patients are safely in the hands of medical professionals when they arrive at appointments. 🙌 The benefit? ✅ Patients and their families know they're in good hands. They're less likely to cancel appointments or not show up for fear of the unknown. They benefit from the continuity of care and that means better disease management and better health. ✅ Family members and caregivers gain peace of mind ✅ Providers win from fewer patient no shows, less administrative disruption, and that means better productivity, less operational stress and higher revenue.
