READ: PCW’s Statement of Support to the Department of the Interior and Local Government's Commitment to End All Forms of Violence Against Women and Girls
The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) supports the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), led by Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" C. Abalos, Jr., in its unwavering commitment to eradicating all forms of violence against women and girls including rape, child abuse, and trafficking in persons. Violence Against Women (VAW) is a pervasive problem that has far-reaching consequences for the victim-survivors, families, and communities. Time and again, we reiterated that it is a heinous violation of human rights, a blatant disregard for women and girls’ dignity, and an obstacle to achieving gender equality and women's empowerment.
We also emphasize the crucial role of law enforcement agencies, including those under the helm of the DILG like the Philippine National Police, in protecting women and girls from violence and abuse. They are the first line of defense in preventing and responding to these crimes. They are tasked to investigate reports of violence, apprehend perpetrators, and ensure that victims receive the necessary support, being key movers in the fight against VAW.
Everyone, we owe it to our women and girls to ensure that both people and systems work effectively to address VAWC cases and bring perpetrators to justice.
Months before the observance of the 2024 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, the PCW also calls on all stakeholders, including government agencies, legislators, civil society organizations, and the private sector, to join forces in the fight against VAWC. Tayo ay maging kakampi, hindi kalaban, ng mga biktima ng at lumalaban sa karahasan.

1moWhat terrific recognition and celebration for the front line organizations making the enablements of VAWA a reality. And thank you President Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris for signing the strengthened reauthorization of VAWA in 2022!
