Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting Taulia's London office with our VP of People and Performance, Hannah Winter We conducted training sessions to foster growth and build connections, topped off with some friendly ping-pong competition!  We focused on key areas essential for our team's development: 🔄 Giving and Receiving Feedback: At @Taulia, we’re committed to a high-feedback culture. It was fantastic to see everyone honing their feedback skills.  🌈 Inclusion in the Workplace: We explored true inclusivity and actionable steps to nurture a culture of inclusion.  🦸 Leading vs. Managing: For our managers, we discussed the differences between managing and leading, providing insights to better support their teams.  🤝 Building Trust, Accountability/Ownership, and Empathy: We focused on strategies to foster trust, empower team members, and develop empathy.  💬 Effective Communications: We practiced techniques to improve the clarity and effectiveness of our interactions. Have you ever felt like throwing in the towel? You know, where you just question why you do the work that you do? Where you question is it even making an impact? Me too. I was asking myself those questions just days before I presented to this group of leaders. But they didn't know that. I showed up with a smile and talked about the Unidos ERG (Employee Resource Group) and our upcoming events. I didn't know someone I really admire and consider a mentor was in the room. Johnny Arias was present and posted this kind note of gratitude afterwards: "Gracias Gracias Gracias much gratitude to Patty who just did an amazing job teaching all the directors and general managers in the Philly marketplace about Latinx heritage month and all the great things our ERG is doing and stands for. So proud of you and our Unidos ERG!" Other leaders chimed in on the kudos and it warmed my heart. Their comments were exactly what I needed that week. I was reminded why I do the DEI work that I do, why it's a big passion of mine, and why I believe in the work. Mid-Year Thoughts on Business Partners & Collaboration They year is almost half over, and I’m preparing for summer vacation. As I prepare to leave, I’m reflecting on the year.  The thing that resonates most is the impact and power of the collective Quad “team”. Across all our brands, Quad, Meet Rise, Betty and Favorite Child this year has been powered by my partners.   Their leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment drive our collective growth. Greetings from a week of solitude in a charming village in the West of Ireland! 👋🏻 After a whirlwind year and a half— from putting everything in storage in spring ’23 to head to the British Isles, unexpectedly falling in love with an Irishman, planning multiple wedding celebrations, navigating the green card process, and hopping between Ireland, Iceland, Minneapolis, Austin, and back again— it was time for a much-needed solo retreat. To spend time surrounded by stillness, beauty, and nature. To reflect, process, write, and plan for what’s ahead. I’ve found that creating space to slow down and intentionally step away from the noise and constant execution is key to regaining clarity and perspective. The “pulling back” is what propels you forward with renewed focus and momentum. As I soak in this time, here’s what I’m getting excited about: - Soon I’ll be launching 'On Scaling Within,' a Substack exploring strategies for leaders and teams to thrive amidst change and growth. - Scaling Within’s L&D programs are taking shape— both on the human side of leadership development and on equipping teams to navigate change, growth, and uncertainty. - I’m also in the early stages of planning our first leadership retreat next year to create space for leaders to get away and get refreshed, regain clarity, and strategize for the future. However, so many teams and organisations push that third lever first, believing that pushing people harder will get the outcome they want. Without investing in belief (purpose) and working on your other team foundations (trust and connection), the working hard bit has a limited impact and your people end up burned out rather than motivated and striving towards a collective goal. As a leader, understanding and constantly investing in the foundational elements of high performing teams is critical. 📆 Today, July 11th, 2024, marks two years since taking on the leadership of the Hemsley Fraser Client Partner team (what a wild ride it’s been) 🤯 Yesterday, a colleague asked me, “Why do you celebrate this milestone? What’s that all about?” My response: Yes, we have a team birthday, 🎂 and this is why it’s not as fluffy as it sounds! It’s about a number of things: It’s about recognising all the great work that went before us, it’s about ending that current state as of July 2021, drawing a line in the sand, and transitioning into new beginnings with a new mission, vision, energy, and motivation (it’s Bridges' change theory). From the 11th of July 21 the transition started. It’s also about team cohesion, creating a sense of "we’re in this together," forming strong bonds, connection and a sense of community. After all its that community that builds resilience when things are tough, it’s those relationships that get us through. 💪 Finally it’s about knowing that it’s these kind of milestones that can boost team engagement by up to 30% and productivity by 12% (Harvard Business Review said so). So today we celebrate our journey. It reminds us to reflect, take stock, and be proud of the distance traveled, the growth achieved, and obstacles overcomed. To celebrate Fidelio’s #15thAnniversary, we are exploring some of the key developments in the Boardroom that we have engaged with since 2009. Board thinking on #culture is potentially the most significant of these. 📣 Championing Culture 📣 The Financial Crisis taught us a lot about culture, and in the following 15 years Boards have been tasked with ensuring a healthy and strong culture throughout the organisation. Initially many Boards were sceptical about their ability to influence culture, but this has developed substantially.
