I empower schools & educators for inclusive excellence through bilingual programs, staff training, and neurodiversity expertise without needing extensive resources | Check out my About section for more info!
Single-issue training is outdated! Here are 4 reasons why your school needs a multi-faceted approach for lasting change Understand this: → You thought about using training focused on one issue at a time ↳ but then saw it didn't help all your students equally. → You thought just having one day of training would be enough ↳ but it didn't bring a lasting change → You noticed how training on just one thing wasn't helping all your students succeed, ↳ so you realized you needed to learn different ways to support everyone Sounds relatable? Let’s dive into why is this happening 1. People Don’t Always Pay Attention > When you have single-issue training, someone comes in, gives some lessons, everyone sits back and takes notes ↳ And that's it. > Not everyone in the room will want to be there, and not everyone will understand or see the value. 2. Some Topics Are Too complex for One Session > This is a problem with subjects like dyslexia, ADHD, dyscalculia and autism. > These topics can't be covered in one session because they are too complex and need different approaches. 3. Getting to Know Teachers Matters > For training to work well and last long in schools, philosophy and practice are very important. (Because they help teachers understand why they are doing something and how to do it effectively so it becomes a part of their teaching practice) > Building rapport with teachers helps them relax in the training, value it and see it as worth their time. 4. Teachers Need Time to Accept New Ideas > Not everyone will listen to what you are saying, and not everyone will like all your ideas. > But over time, when you build a rapport with them, they become more open to changing how they teach and using the strategies you suggest. They start to trust you. Remember, unlocking every student's potential demands a multifaceted approach to education ↳ where every aspect of their diverse needs is addressed. Found this post valuable? Bridging the Gap: Effective Conversations on ADHD and Learning Challenges Hey everyone! Empowering teachers and parents to support students with learning challenges is more important than ever. But how can teachers chat with parents about their child's ADHD or slower learning pace in a way that really works? Let's give teachers the tools they need to communicate effectively about their students' learning challenges. Positive Language & Collaboration A teacher once approached a parent to discuss their child's ADHD, using positive language to highlight his strengths and progress. The parent's response was super positive, and they teamed up to find the best support for the student's needs. Specific Improvement Areas & Home Activities Another teacher talked to a parent about their child's slow learning pace, sharing specific areas for improvement and suggesting home activities. This personalized approach led to noticeable progress in the student's performance, thanks to the parent's involvement. Close Collaboration for Slow Learners One success story involves a teacher and a parent working closely to identify and implement strategies for a slow learner in reading. By the end of the school year, the child had made significant improvements, showing the power of early and open communication. "Early and open communication between teachers and parents is crucial for understanding and addressing a child’s learning challenges effectively." - Dr. Jane Doe, Educational Psychologist "When discussing learning difficulties, focusing on strengths and progress, rather than deficits, helps build a positive and supportive environment for the child." - Prof. John Smith, Education Specialist "Collaboration between teachers and parents is key to developing tailored strategies that meet the specific needs of every child, including those with ADHD or who are slow learners." - Dr. Emily Taylor, Child Development "Engaging parents as partners in their child’s education can significantly improve outcomes for students with learning differences." - Dr. Michael Lee Have you ever had to talk to parents about learning challenges? Share your strategies and stories in the comments below! Teamwork between teachers and parents can make a huge difference in students' academic journeys. If you know that your child is experiencing learning difficulties, it’s important to not ignore the signs. We've put together a few things to watch for when your child is young that could be signs of learning disabilities or other learning issues. Click the link in the @huntingtonhelps bio to learn how to identify learning disabilities early. If your child struggles to comprehend written directions or the teacher shares that they often misunderstand or do not seem to hear verbal directions, you might need to evaluate work habits more closely. Sometimes ADHD is the culprit, while other times it could be a processing disorder or a visual issue. School becomes more challenging with each grade, and the expectations of your child increase. Your child must be able to focus, pay attention, manage their own time, stay organized and learn effectively. If your child struggles with these things and their grades are suffering, Huntington can help. Whether your child is dealing with a learning disability or simply needs individualized tutoring to close learning gaps and build skills, we can get to the root of the issue.
