Civic engagement refers to the active participation of individuals in their communities or society at large. It involves taking part in activities that contribute to the well-being of the community, such as volunteering, voting, advocating for social or political change, attending public meetings, and participating in community events. Civic engagement also includes staying informed about local issues, working with others to solve problems, and collaborating with community members to create positive change. Ultimately, civic engagement is about individuals using their time, skills, and resources to make a positive impact on the world around them.

#Day2 of 4 - Engaging in Community Organizing and Civic Engagement during Spring Break🌱 Today was a transformative experience as part of our workshop, where we had the privilege of visiting "The Village" in Worcester🌍. The Village stands as a beacon of Afrocentric cultural, learning, and healing in the heart of the Main South neighborhood, Worcester, MA. The essence of The Village lies in its commitment to building grassroots power by fostering connections among BIPOC groups, healers, and individuals dedicated to the profound values of racial justice, learning, creativity, community, and healing. 🤝 Organizing in Solidarity: Today's session delved deep into the art of organizing in solidarity. We explored the intricate ways in which collaboration and unity can amplify our impact, working towards a more just and equitable society. 🌈 Identity Exploration: The workshop facilitated a thought-provoking group discussion on the major components of identity. This activity allowed us to recognize the richness and diversity within our community, fostering understanding and appreciation for the various facets that shape each individual. 🛑 The 4 I's of Oppression: A powerful learning moment focused on the 4 I's of Oppression. These pillars—Institutional, Interpersonal, Internalized, and Ideological—serve as a compass, guiding us through the complex landscape of oppression. Understanding these dimensions equips us with the tools to dismantle systemic barriers and cultivate a more inclusive future. As we continue our journey in community organizing, let's carry these lessons forward. Together, we can be catalysts for positive change, working towards a world where everyone's voice is not only heard but celebrated. Let's build bridges, break down barriers, and empower one another in the pursuit of justice, equality, and a shared vision for a better tomorrow. 💪✨ Expressing deep gratitude to Domenica Perrone and Carla Orellana for masterfully leading workshops that illuminated the vital importance of community organizing and civic engagement. 🙏🌟 #CommunityOrganizing #CivicEngagement #SolidarityInAction #SocialJustice #TheVillageWorcester #clarkuniversity #identity

Our mission is not just about addressing immediate needs but about giving hope, courage, and opportunities to those who need it most. We’re dedicated to empowering young people to take the lead in transforming their environments, driving social progress, and creating a brighter future for all. #CivicChats - Why a Community? Hello. Hello, #Civicchats, and this one today is continuing the theme of community. This post is inspired by a few different LinkedIn connections. It's all about thinking and understanding what it is you expect from a community. What type of community would you like to build and, as such, I am wondering what the benefits might be. Community is foundational for me, particularly when things are not going so well. It's like my adoptive family because I don't have any immediate family here in the USA. You can go to the community for support. You can go to the community for advice. Furthermore, you can go to the community to say hi. Interested in learning what are your thoughts? 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅 𝒂 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚? If so, do you want help doing that? Because I can help you. Thanks, CivicChats, and comm #simplerfasterbetter #community https://lnkd.in/gK3HcruS
