Acquisition through customer service 💡 If you start a software company, it can be daunting to see the accounting events season kick off. Filled with big brands and teams of sales people, swag and all the rest. Furthermore you will read on LinkedIn about sales targets, ROI on events/marketing spend and turning £1 into £3 etc etc. As a bootstrapped tech company rest assured that all this chat and events are completely irrelevant. But that's great news. Just don't fall into the trap to feel like you need to compete on this playing field. We can't. Our money can be much better spent on customer service, something these brands are not always good at. And customer service is the ultimate acquisition strategy. A superpower if you've found product market fit in a vertical market such as the accounting and bookkeeping space. But what does good customer service looks like? ⭐ Customer service, is different to customer support. Although good customer support is a fundamental part of it. Customer service is: ⭐ Making sure you are listening to your customers. ⭐ Making sure listening to your customers turn into action and product updates fast. ⭐ Communicating your roadmap and plans to your customers. Delivering on them. ⭐ Provide undeniable ROI for your customer. Even if that investment is just their time. ⭐ This might mean pricing in a way that sets you apart from others. ⭐ Build a product that works better, has a cleaner interface and is fast. The experience of your customer is fundamental to good customer service. ⭐ Give your customers your time. It doesn't matter how big or how small. Each customer interaction is a chance to wow a customer and normally all it costs is your undevided attention. You can tell 1,000 attendees to an event how great your app is, but if one of your customers speak highly about your product to their peers it is a 100 times more effective than any marketing campaign. The best thing? Customer service is so ingrained into your product development that it costs you nothing. What's your CAC? You will find it really hard to calculate and mostly you won't need to care.
