HR professionals in transition: make sure that you are optimizing your job search! This may require you to go outside of your comfort zone a bit, but here is some rather basic advice (I am no HR or job search expert, to be sure): 1) Please make sure that you are reaching out to your former coworkers, current friends, and definitely to your current/former vendors. When you are working at any job in HR, you are under siege from vendors near and far: staffing companies, payroll, background checks, insurance brokers, employee benefit/voluntary benefit companies, PEO's...the list is endless. They all want your time! Well, make sure that these same vendors know your situation now, and ask them for help. Those that can help will, and if there are some who disappear on you, just remember that when you are employed again and these people suddenly reappear to call on your in your new role. :-) 2) Find a search buddy. Reach out on Linkedin to other HR pros in transition. While technically these people could be your competition for a role or two, you can gain so much by partnering up. Share your frustrations, meet up in person or virtually for coffee and a brainstorm session, share any open roles that you may be aware of..... 3) Practice self-care. Get outside (hard to do the past few days in Southern CA), walk your dog, or simply stroll down your street. Visit a park. Go to the beach if that's an option, or take a hike. Make sure to try to journal or meditate (or both). Visualize your ideal role in HR so that when asked, you can articulate exactly what you are looking for. 4) Try to attend any local HR networking events. There are some great offerings in the California market, as HR pros have PIHRA, NHRA, and in certain parts of the state, other local HR networking groups have sprouted up (San Diego is a great case in point). If you attend these meetings, try to ask if you can speak at the meeting briefly to describe your ideal role and what you are looking for.....some meetings openly offer this as an option to any HR pros in transition. 5) Start your own business. For some of you, this may not be an option. But many very successful HR consulting practices have been born because of a stint of unemployment creating the impetus for change. Your HR knowledge is a commodity, especially for small businesses (2 employees to 50 or more) who will pay a consultant rather than committing to hire a full time professional. Let's talk recruitment. I have been supporting a family friend this week with looking for a HR opportunity. It's great to be able to share with them my passion for HR from the last 21 years and talk about the career paths and opportunities available. Whilst I am a generalist offering an outsourced HR Manager service to small local business in and around Stone, Staffordshire as well as small healthcare organisations nationally, there are a lot of different career paths that you can choose in HR. I started out in sickness absence management, then recruitment, then employee relations, then a true generalist as a HR Manager and Head of HR, before self employment, so its exciting for someone new coming into the field to talk to them about the various opportunities. I coach and work alongside non-HR employees in small business who complete HR duties so am used to coaching and developing individuals as they start a career, but one of the things I have noticed is still the lack of salaries being advertised on some roles. 'Competitive' What does that mean? You will compete with a salary that someone else has offered for an amazing, future star? Or, you will wait and see what the person expects and then if its low, give them that, or if its too high you will ghost them? All organisations have budgets and know what they have available. The best organisations will have done some benchmarking to know what is competitive and will advertise the role accordingly. The amazing organisations will know the value of bringing an excellent employee into their business, developing them, allowing them to grow and seeing the return on investment over and over again. Share your salaries. A candidate will know whether its the right level, whether their worth is being valued and will apply or not, rather than wasting their time. Not to mention your time. How much longer does it take to recruit a role with an undisclosed salary because you receive such a broad range of applications, or perhaps that is why you are not getting applications. #recruitment #hrconsultant #hrsupport #smallbusinesssupport #healthcarehr #CIPD

Top-notch organizations evaluate you on your performance against your objectives ...and on the quality of the productive relationships you build that benefit the firm. Nothing else. 👉 6--If you only deliver the HR work you're assigned, you are replaceable. If you deliver more than you're told or assigned, you're indispensable. Indispensable HR professionals are always in demand - in good times and bad. By the way, AI robots will soon be able to do those regular, routine, and repetitive HR tasks you're doing now -- if they can't already. 😲😲 👉 7--If you're "indispensable" to your organization, leverage this at performance review time. And also during salary and bonus negotiations. These are the few times it does NOT pay to be humble and modest. So brag and showcase your accomplishments at review time -- after all, you've got bills to pay, mouths to feed, and a future to save for. Just a few ugly truths I've learned the hard way. Similarly, HR professionals are tasked with identifying the right fit for each role within an organization. What does a HR Administrator do? First up, this is one of the most important roles in a High Performing HR Team! Why? Because a High Performing HR Team can only be built on solid foundations. And by solid foundations I mean... 1. Processes that are perfectly executed 2. Documentation that is always accurate and sent out in a timely manner 3. HR Systems that are kept up to date with correct information 4. First line queries that are responded to swiftly A High Performing HR Team should demonstrate their capability and professionalism. By moving at pace, responding swiftly and providing accurate information they will build trust with people in the business.
