Exciting day at the Summit Event yesterday! I had the opportunity to attend two thought-provoking talks: 1️⃣ Can Europe Catch Up in the Space Race? 2️⃣ Alternative Ways to Fund Your Startup The discussions were truly eye-opening, offering new perspectives on how Europe can become more competitive in space innovation. In the space race discussion, one key takeaway was the insightful comment, “England should focus on the small things we are great at rather than trying to be the best at everything—let’s be the best at what we’re already better at.” This resonated deeply, as it emphasises the importance of leveraging our strengths to drive innovation in space technology.🚀 The second session introduced me to Moneymondays and Sieventures, who provided fresh insights into alternative funding methods, offering valuable and creative strategies for startups looking to thrive in today’s competitive market. 💡 Another highlight of the Summit Event was exploring the company stalls, including Beam and Hubspot, both of which showcased how they’re leveraging AI to drive growth and innovation. It was particularly interesting to learn how Beam is using AI in cutting-edge applications like robotic ships and underwater robots, pushing the boundaries of technology. Meanwhile, Hubspot demonstrated how AI is revolutionising their marketing and sales strategies. These companies exemplify how embracing advanced technology can lead to significant breakthroughs, and it was inspiring to see the real-world impact AI is having across different industries. Beyond the insights, the event provided an excellent opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, expand my network, and engage in inspiring conversations. What an incredible time at #BioEuropeSpring in Barcelona! 🎉 This year, I decided to take a step back from one-to-one meetings and fully embrace the conference buzz. It was amazing to meet new people and catch up with old friends around the booths for a coffee or a drink. I was also fortunate enough to be part of the opening panel discussion, and here are some key takeaways: 🚀 Despite the challenging times and a dip in Series A investments in 2023, the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and kicking! It's inspiring to see more scientists venturing into the startup world. 💡 Venture capitalists are increasingly involved in company creation. Don't hesitate to connect with us and have conversations about your technologies. We may offer valuable advice and insights. 🤝 Building long-term relationships with VCs and Pharma is crucial, especially for scientific founders and CEOs. Remember, a "no" doesn't mean it's the end. Show progress and keep delivering to keep the conversation going. Can't wait to see where these connections and experiences take me next! Hinterland of Things: A Reality Check Typical Conference Schedule for Most Attendees: - TAKE: A picture with “old classmates” to prove it was a success. - TELL: A post highlighting that the German Mittelstand has three big topics: 1. AI, 2. and 3. (two numbers to work on). - TOAST: Link five people you met for ten minutes on LinkedIn to show you made valuable connections. My Expectations for Startups at a Conference: - SEE: Identify targets. - SELL: Promote products. - SERVE: Engage with clients. My Actual Experience: - TALK: People still prefer talking about things rather than walking the talk. Few rational discussions, mostly generic KPIs. Key Insights: - For Startups and Founders: Focus on going live quickly and developing products people love, rather than overpromising at conferences. - For Venture Builders and Studios: Prioritize product development over conference networking—start solving problems instead of complaining about structures. Conclusion: Spend more time on building - please. --- I am not in love with conferences, even the Hinterland of Things felt more like a regular more hands-on fair.
