By end of today, I have completed 9 years of service in TCS. I have surprised myself by working for double digit number of years for TCS. This is the first time I have worked so long for any company. I think it was possible, because within TCS, this is my fourth role. These kind of role changes are easier within large companies. Of course it requires skill and patience to make them. Being in a good company helps. TCS and the Tata group mean a lot to me, since my father worked in Air India and had a soft corner for it, primarily due to the soft spoken JRD Tata whose kindness he personally experienced. I have experienced the kindness of everyone in TCS and do not have any sad stories to tell. Problems which happen elsewhere, also happen here. Learning to surf well and jump from wave to wave is a key skill to survive in large firms. Some learn. Many don't. Learning is worthwhile. The avenues for growth are immense. Finding the cheese and finding new cheese when the stock finishes is mandatory. Once you learn that life is much more peaceful. Growth and change are mandatory to survive and thrive. Few years ago, despite spending good number of years, I felt I was just getting started. Now I no longer feel like I am starting. I am cruising well. No one knows what the future holds. One step after another is the only way to get to it. The glorious uncertainty of life awaits us each day. I look forward to my 10th year in TCS. I am now doing marquee engagements with marquee customers and having a gala time at it. Life is finding out what you like doing and are good at and then keep on doing it. I am glad for everything about me. If you live for the intrinsic joy, then life is a toy.
