Hello friends, scientists and communicators! Here is a little #mondaymotivation for you all. At CSIRO Publishing I run so many workshops and very frequently hear participants say "my English isn't good enough for academic writing" or "I'm not confident with my English." I have a confession: Despite teaching writing for a living, good spelling and grammar don't come easily to me and I've had to put in the practice. In fact the post I'm sharing comes from someone who was extremely patient with my early academic writing efforts and personally inspires me. Dr Michael Seery shares a mural from their workplace at the Centre for Academic Language and Develop at the University of Bristol: "Academic Language is no one's mother tongue". I would like to add that no one is born a good writer - there are just people that have had more practice at it! I hope this inspires you today to put aside your worries about being a "good writer", sit down and write for 15 minutes and practice writing some words on a page. When I first joined Hostinger, I was unsure about what I really wanted to be. There were a lot of career opportunities and jobs that I had explored previously, and I thought this would just be another stepping stone towards something bigger 🤔 Who knew it would turn out that I've been working here for 5 years? 🎉 Yes, you read it correctly. It's been a meaningful 5-year ride at Hostinger International, and I couldn't be more grateful; I get to explore different roles and functions that help me nurture my passion along the way. Is this what job fulfillment feels like? I believe so 🤗 Surrounded by amazing colleagues throughout my journey, I've managed to learn a lot of things ranging from professional skills to personal traits from many people who have shaped who I am today. Every day, I learn something new, making my day-to-day work always feel like the first day 😄 Don't get me wrong, it's not always "up, up, up." There were also moments of "down, down, down." However, I'm glad that the culture we embody here trains us to be resilient, responsible, supportive, and empathetic 🙌 Innovating and making mistakes are our gateways to learning something new. We are having fun by reflecting on our achievements and areas of improvement 📈 ⏳ It's true that "time flies when you're having fun!" ⏳ I'm having fun by learning new things from other people, opening books that always remind me of my first-day experience, and growing by the "Learn and be Curious" principle 📚 🎓 However, we also cannot deny the fact that it's not the company that pushes us to be better, but it's our own selves who decide. The company is there to accommodate, but we decide our own paths, behaviors, work & life principles that will lead us to our goals. 🌟 some character-building lessons from becoming a first-time Chief of Staff: 1. Anyone can learn anything, as long as you put your mind into practicing these lessons every single day. 2. The amount of tasks in one day can increase exponentially, if you aren't building processes to scale. 3. The sooner you embrace what you don't know, the better you can do your job. Stay curious and humble. I finally had the chance to think about and write down my journey to becoming a Chief of Staff at Zealy. Grateful for an incredible team that trusts and supports each other. We're officially in Q2. The year is flying by, and it's time for my quarterly check-in. Every few months I take inventory of my professional and personal life, level set, and work toward new goals. Here are a few things I'm reviewing on both fronts: 1. Ensure our team feels fulfilled by their work; shift priorities pending their feedback. This is ongoing but always a good reminder! 2. Review external partnerships to identify synergies and services that support better member outcomes. 3. Celebrate big and small wins across the board. 4. Plan a summertime family getaway with at least one outdoor activity. What are some things you're thinking about heading into a new quarter?

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to join our team for a retreat at the American River 🌊. While the entire experience was unforgettable, the highlight for me was rafting — a first-time adventure that left me with lasting insights. As we navigated the river, each stretch presented a unique challenge. The rapids varied in intensity, requiring us to adapt quickly and stay coordinated. It wasn’t long before I started drawing parallels between our journey on the water and the path we’re carving out as a team and organization. Here are a few lessons I took away from the rapids: 1. Teamwork is everything. Just like paddling in synchrony is crucial to steering through turbulent waters, collaboration is key in overcoming challenges at work. 2. Camaraderie, adaptability, and resilience are non-negotiable. The river throws surprises at you, and much like in our professional journey, staying adaptable and leaning on each other makes all the difference. 3. Control is only part of the equation. There are moments when you have to take charge, and others when you must let go and surrender to the flow — in life and in work, knowing when to do each is vital. This experience left me inspired and with a deeper appreciation for the power of teamwork and resilience, both on the river and in the workplace. 🌊🚀

What have you learned since you started your position???? We are celebrating everything February at Digital Edge today. We are celebrating our people, our work, our business and all those that engage with Digital Edge. The theme of the day has been 2 pronged. 1. Not settling for second best. it isn't about being 1st, it's about asking how we can be better. 2. Perspective. It is important to know how far we have come so that we can understand how far we can go. An amazing team session where I asked each of the team the question... What has been the biggest lesson you have learned since you started your position here at DE? Here are my teams answers and I LOVE it! - I can learn anything - The power of TEAM - I am more capable than I thought - I can talk to people and be listened to - I didn't think I was as adaptable - I didn't think I would be able to build the size of the systems I am now. - I am only ever a second or decision away from a change. I'm a second away from being anything and doing anything. WOW! Like, WOW! Incredible realisations. I am officially blown away by my teams reaction to this question. There was no huffing and puffing, no uncertainty and everyone answered with real conviction. What have YOU learned since you started YOUR position? GO!!!! Have a great weekend😘
