Are you Not Entertained?!! The examples I’ve shared so far tap into deeper human needs (identity, community, exclusivity). But it’s important to remember that we as humans enjoy being entertained. Some companies have figured out how to bring a level of entertainment that their customers have come to love, allowing them to stand out amongst their competitors. Cold Stone Creamery: Bring the Fun When Cold Stone launched in 1988, Baskin-Robbins was the industry leader. But with their linoleum floors and fluorescent lighting, Baskin-Robbins locations weren’t particularly exciting - let’s be honest, they were miserable to be in. Why do people go to an ice cream shop? To celebrate or perhaps to find comfort after a miserable day. Cold Stone saw this and decided it shouldn’t be just “a place to get ice cream.” Baskin-Robbins had that part down. Cold Stone became known as a festive place to get ice cream. With fun names, singing employees, and performance when mixing ingredients, Cold Stone reinforced the reason people came there – to feel better. If you’re already in a good mood, you’ll feel better. If you’re in a bad mood, you’ll feel better. There’s an overall sense of levity there. But really it’s just a fun environment. Intentionally so. Because isn’t that what we want out of our ice cream experience? Southwest Airlines: Funny for Some, Not so Much for Others Southwest was launched with a sense of irreverence and fun. But it was heavily ridiculed and criticized for not being serious enough. Flying wasn’t seen as a place for humor. You could argue that mindset still holds today. What works for Southwest wouldn’t work for others. Airlines with longer histories like American and United would find it much more difficult to bring the sense of humor that Southwest does. Such is the power of legacy and customer expectation. As much as surprise and delight is another great way to create an incredible customer experience, humor in the pre-flight announcement isn’t really on-brand for American or United. Southwest is NOT for passengers who expect assigned seats, NOT for passengers who want different classes of seats, and NOT for customers who expect a certain level of rigidity and seriousness from the flight staff. And yet, Southwest has proven that humor and a casual sensibility have a place for a certain group of customers. Again, we see this recurring theme that targeting a certain customer segment can yield positive results. A final note. Entertainment and humor may be deeply intertwined in what a brand stands for, but consumers, at the most basic level, want a product that solves a need. It’s very difficult to keep them coming back, no matter how funny and entertaining you are, if that core product need isn’t met. But when a great product is matched with literally bringing a smile to a customer’s face, that’s where the magic can happen. (In the first comment, I’ll include 2 more examples I didn’t have space for.)

Can you imagine 1 year from now, 3 years, 10 years…. Costco membership sales are a core profit driver. For every 1 million members worldwide, Costco generates at least $60 million in revenue from membership fees alone. As of early 2022, Costco had over 114 million cardholders. Amazon subscription revenue in 2022 was over $35 billion, compared to almost $32 billion in 2021. Amazon Prime grew from a $4.5 billion revenue segment in 2015 LiveGood started in December 2022 and now has over 1.4 million members, of which 80%+ are not in the USA… btw, the fastest growing and the only membership based Network Marketing company… You literally have something, no one else even knows about or understands…..being different is why so many people are joining, so fast! “In a crowded marketplace, fitting in is failing. In a busy marketplace, not standing out is the same as being invisible.” ― Seth Godin, Purple Cow https://lnkd.in/eP-9GpXD

𝐀𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐰𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦. That’s why we gather every two weeks for a yummy catered breakfast buffet 🍳🥐. It’s not just about the delicious food (though that’s definitely a highlight!)—it’s about taking time to chat, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company. With everyone having the flexibility to work wherever and whenever suits them 🖥️, these breakfasts are a special way for us to reconnect. Sharing a meal creates a relaxed space for conversations that often lead to fresh ideas and new perspectives. Here’s why we love these mornings: 💙 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬: There’s something about sharing a meal that helps strengthen our team. It’s a great way to build trust and collaboration. 💙 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: Flexibility is key to our work culture, but so is coming together. These moments remind us how valuable in-person connections can be. At the end of the day, it’s all about community. When we feel connected, we can tackle anything together! A big shout-out to Katharina Gerstenecker who makes sure our buffet is a success every time 🫶 Here’s to great food, good company, and awesome teamwork! 🥂 #wearethinkersandbuilders #puttingpeoplefirst #sclable #team

Passionate leader dedicated to transforming Customer and Employee Experience and helping to enhance profitability, additionally supporting University of Portsmouth as Entrepreneur in Residence
Excited 🎉🎉 but is it for my breakfast............😉 Its Saturday morning, its been a wild week, quite a lot is happening, and yesterday was a very interesting finish to the week, my brain is on overdrive.... Therefore a breakfast out was a super way to start the weekend, and if you wish for outstanding customer experience as well the most amazing food, the best café breakfast you will have, you need to visit Cross Kitchen Emsworth, I would call it a Bistro Café... Ambiance - Perfect, friendly, relaxing and so lovely Food - yummers - blimming gorgeous And of course we had to have the before and after shot 😁💗 Hopefully that picture captures the excitement that is within. I have had some amazing conversations lately, about my favourite subject, #People And, of course their vital importance for companies. A little reminder, technology is the enabler, it us humans that design, create, and develop, got a feeling then, that we are rather important. Which means we really do need to start understanding our people, their individual complexities, their capabilities, their skills and their idiosyncrasies. Create exciting, exhilarating, innovative, developmental and CARING environments.... But not just on paper Actually, Live your words, your values, mean what you say.. Your people, is what makes your company We all go to work for money, however our choice of where we work is a completely different matter. I have always believed that people should feel comfortable and happy in their work environment, you should be able to have one persona, the personal you, and the work you, should be one... feeling comfortable, being YOURSELF Remember, every individual is amazing, and that individuality makes extremely special... Have a super weekend #CustomerExperience #CX #WorkCulture #EmployeeEngagement #EE #EX #PeopleFirst #Leadership #Innovation #Culture #Values #Retail #Medical #HumanCentered #BeYourself #UniversityOfPortsmouth #Energy #Banking #Insurance #Technology

Discover the portrait of Viet TON THAT, Head of eComponents, Global Tech Department at Edenred!🔴 🎤 Who are you? I’m Viet. I'm a married and happy father of two daughters. I was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and arrived in France when I was 7 years old. Since then, I have been living in Paris. I’m in charge of the eComponents team for Global Technology. 🎤 What has been your career path at Edenred? It’s been only 1 year and 1 month since I joined Edenred, so I’m still quite new to this extraordinary company! Since January 2023, I’m happy to co-lead the eComponents team with Clement Le Chatelier, my “counterpart” on the Business side. We are a mix of a product and tech team, working together as one team, operating in complete transparency. We also deeply believe in collaboration between product and tech. eComponents purpose is to serve Edenred transversal business needs by offering an innovative and standard technological solution in line with Edenred expected levels of excellence and reliability. 🎤 What is your main role today? I consider myself as a servant leader and like to say that my job is to support the team by creating optimal conditions to make the team work in an efficient way to serve the business. On a daily basis, my role is to share the means of what we do, to facilitate the team's life by finding or sharing information, knowledge or resources the team needs, encourage collaboration and initiatives. I try to make sure that each team member is comfortable with his/her position within the organization. Sometimes, my role is also to make difficult decisions. And of course, ensuring that each euro we spend is worth it. I’m very efficiency oriented. 🎤 What is your favorite moment of the day? I would say between 8AM and 9AM. I arrive at work around 8. I have my routine: filling my bottle of water, taking a cappuccino, and preparing my to-do list for the day. 🎤 What is your favorite movie of all times? There are a lot. Too many to pick one! I would say: Matrix, Interstellar, Inception, The Right Stuff, Once Upon a Time in America, Top Gun, Alien (the 1st one), Barry Lindon, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Gattaca, Legends of the Fall... 🎤 What makes you vibe at Edenred? The fact that we are at the beginning of a story. Plenty of challenges to face and to grow. And plenty of opportunities to transform to challenges. At Edenred, we have the chance and resources to transform challenges into success. Concretely, at our humble level, the transformation of the team Clement and I are leading, with the support of our respective management, makes me vibe. We are 100% not sure to succeed, but we have the opportunity to try! #vibewithus
