Relational mentoring isn’t just about getting a customer from A to B, it’s about working to connect and have an honest conversation about what a customer really needs over time, and working together to overcome those barriers. Rehabilitation is not just as simple as getting out of prison and fitting straight back in to your community. Leaving prison can be scary, and being honest to yourself and to those trying to support you about what you need help with is not always the easiest conversation to have. Our mentors work with individuals over time, allowing those honest conversations to be had, and steps forward to be taken, creating sustainable and long term positive change for these customers and their communities. Adam Mccormick, from HMP Low Moss, sums up what individuals can face when they leave prison and what our relational mentoring approach can do to help in the video below. SPARK's Insight to Well-Being Program helps people affected by the criminal justice system uncover their innate SPARK and resiliency so they can demonstrate a greater sense of hope and purpose in life. We asked our participants about their thoughts on youth mentorship. Here is one response. "Mentorship is very impactful. Having someone there by your side or in your ear to show you the ropes helps a lot. Imagine being sent to a new place or program knowing nothing or no one...that's a little scary to handle. Everyone needs guidance. Mentoring people is another way to explore other ways to show people other levels of comfort and skill sets to build them up. Strength is in numbers. Having a mentor provides comfort and ease for those who may not know where to start within themselves. Sharing information is also caring!" -Female participant of our Insight to Wellbeing program at Falkenburg Road Jail #NeverBroken #MentoringMatters #MentoringAmplifies #MentalHealth

Through evidence-based research, it’s clear that mentoring positively impacts the lives of youth. Young people who are mentored are less likely to engage in a variety of risky and unhealthy behaviors, such as using illegal drugs or alcohol, skipping school, and becoming incarcerated. BBBSA establishes powerful connections between Bigs and Littles through 230 agencies serving over 5,000 communities in all 50 states. Mentorship as a Bridge to Opportunity Mentorship acts as a bridge connecting underrepresented groups to opportunities otherwise out of reach. By offering guidance, support, and access to networks, mentors help level the playing field and break down barriers to success. What type of values do we REALLY want to be known for in our community and world? My Bible says in Hebrews 13:3, "Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies." Regardless of anyone's religious or spiritual affiliation, isn't it time we start living out the highest truths we say we believe in? Today, I completed our 16th and final session for the pilot LOT JI Behind the Walls program. Leaving the prison, I felt inspired, heavy-hearted, and profoundly grateful for the opportunity to pour into these men. In a world that talks about second chances, we must honestly acknowledge that many of these individuals never stood a chance in the first place due to their backgrounds, the homes they grew up in, and the lack of love, care, and support they experienced throughout their lives. I am only one person, but I choose to lead by example, helping to uplift those who deserve and desire a pathway to a better future. This Sunday, we will celebrate their graduation. Some of the letters and comments we received express that this was not only the best experience they’ve had in prison but also the first time they truly believe they have a pathway to success. My commitment to them is to seek the support needed to launch a second pilot for the next wave of men to experience this transformative program. If anyone is interested in discussing how we can garner more support for this impactful community work, please reach out. Together, we can make our community better and live out our values of caring for those who deserve at least a shot at a better life. #LeadersOfTomorrow #Think3D #CommunityImpact #LiveYourTruth

Can't recommend this training highly enough. I know this time of year people are often looking to spend bits of training budgets so get in quick before it books out. Remember you can also book an in house training for your whole team if you have 18 staff or more as it becomes better value.

We have been blown away by colleagues who have joined us for Resisting Collusion and Motivating Change training recently. Their level of insight, deep thinking and capacity for curiosity, has made for some really intriguing discussions of late - thanks to everyone who has come along! Our next sessions have gone live! Come join us on Thursday 20th June, or Wednesday 17th July to have these awesome, and sometimes tricky, conversations! The link is below, as are some lovely nuggets of feedback from our colleagues over the last month :) See you there! Kelly & Ada https://lnkd.in/g4Th6cB9 "Found the training very engaging and informative. I feel it has affirmed some of the practices I am doing, but also changed practices in other areas. I can default to defending men and this training confronted me at times, but that’s why I did the training. Thank you for a very well presented training." Men’s Family Violence Practitioner "People from my team were all talking about how great [the training] was in our Teams chat straight after (a colleague even said it was the best training she'd ever done!!). I also thought everything was so relevant and thought provoking, but also very practical and digestible." Intensive Case Manager, Homelessness Service
