Could we/should we estabish a parallel between Russia's preparatory actions towards Ukraine and those of China in the South China Sea? Of course the Chinese salami slicing strategy is far from Russia's actions, but they do share some common elements such as a common desired end state with dominance across new areas and access to relevant resources https://lnkd.in/d7TVJQkx

》》》🇫🇮 + 🇸🇪 = 💪🏼 (tick... tick... tick...) ✂️ Kaliningrad (/kəˈlɪnɪnɡræd/ kə-LIN-in-grad; Russian: Калининград, IPA: [kəlʲɪnʲɪnˈɡrat]), until 1946 known as Königsberg (German pronunciation: [ˈkøːnɪçsbɛʁk]), is the largest city and administrative centre of Kaliningrad Oblast, a Russian exclave between Lithuania and Poland. The city sits about 663 kilometres (412 mi) west from mainland Russia. The city is situated on the Pregolya River, at the head of the Vistula Lagoon on the Baltic Sea, and is the only ice-free port of Russia on the Baltic Sea. Its population in 2020 was 489,359, with up to 800,000 residents in the urban agglomeration. Kaliningrad is the second-largest city in the Northwestern Federal District, after Saint Petersburg, the third-largest city in the Baltic region, and the seventh-largest city on the Baltic Sea. (Wikipedia) Kaliningrad, oblast (region), extreme western Russia. Most of the oblast is in the basin of the Pregolya River and its tributaries. Centred on Kaliningrad city, it was formed in 1945 from the northern half of German East Prussia, which was ceded to the U.S.S.R. by the Potsdam agreement of that year. Administratively, the oblast was made part of the Russian S.F.S.R., even though it was separated from the parent republic by about 225 miles (360 km) of territory belonging to the Lithuanian, Belorussian, and Latvian republics of the U.S.S.R. When those republics achieved their independence from the collapsing Soviet Union in 1991, the Kaliningrad oblast became a true exclave completely separated by them from the rest of Russia. Today we mark a victory. A substantial quantity of Ukraine's grain has successfully traversed the Black Sea and reached various countries, thereby providing sustenance to the most vulnerable populations and simultaneously bolstering the Ukrainian economy. Ensuring that Ukraine's grain reaches those in dire need will alleviate hunger but also, it plays a crucial role in supporting the global fight against food insecurity. The positive impact on the lives of countless individuals cannot be overstated. Furthermore, the successful export of the grain has significantly contributed to the stimulation of Ukraine's economy, allowing it to further its long term goals of freedom, democracy, Justice, liberty and prosperity. It serves as a testament to the resilience and potential of the Ukrainian agricultural sector, highlighting its capability to thrive even in the face of adversity. Let us take a moment to celebrate this triumph and reflect on the positive impact it will have on the lives of those less fortunate. Let's always strive to make a difference. Always seek to transform lives and shape a brighter future for the world as a whole. As a citizen of the world let us strive to make a positive impact in every endeavor.

As usual, Professor Gerdes gets it a little wrong, but is well worth listening to. In particular, Professor Gerdes notes that in his home in the U.S. South, there are alligators - and you cannot negotiate with an alligator, it is not a 21st century reptile - you have to deal with an alligator as an alligator. I have no argument with that - but he compares Russia to an alligator. That is just wrong. Russia, plainly, is a crocodile - krokodil. Just sayin. The alligator is probably China. Otherwise, bang on correct. What he is really saying is a phrase Golda Meir (born, incidentally, in Kiev) is famous for: "You cannot negotiate with someone who is trying to kill you." 7 Things I Know for Sure about Ukraine / Gerdes https://lnkd.in/gYGFUu5J Wiki EN Alligator https://lnkd.in/g64UkMrf And, if you are part of the "Russian World" - I am including a double meaning, and a bit of satire here; the Brits and the Russians do seem to have a love of satire.
