Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday highlighted the relevance of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, which gained traction with the Non-Aligned Movement, to end the present-day conflicts and sought to expand influence in the Global South amid its tussle with the West. Xi, 71, invoked the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, termed as Panchsheel by India, at a conference here to mark its 70th anniversary and also sought to juxtapose them with his new concept of Global Security Initiative envisaging a shared future for mankind. #china #india #xijinping #panchsheel #globalsecurityinitiative #globalsouth #nonalignedmovement

Views are my own/ An experienced professional in banking and financial control, with a passion for understanding organisational behaviour and leadership/ Curious about business and geopolitics
In summary, Xi's speech commemorating Mao Zedong's birth denounced the West's governance model of democracy and capitalism while touting the superiority of his ideology, including the pursuit of "Chinese modernisation". He also outlined his ambition to surpass Mao. Given Xi's demand for absolute control and loyalty, it is little wonder that some officials have called Xi "lingxiu" (領袖), a reverential term for paramount leader exclusively reserved for Mao in the past. As written in the article, //China's propaganda machine has also stepped up efforts to draw parallels between Mao and Xi. A Communist Party research institute said in an article this month that Mao should be remembered for his "high achievements and strong morals." Then it added: "It is a blessing for the party and the state, the people and the Chinese nation to have General Secretary Xi Jinping, another core of the party, leader of the people and commander-in-chief of the army who enjoys popular support."// What are the potential outcomes when the governance model is motivated by authority, dogma, fear and hubris? #geopolitics

One of my last stories from 2023. We don’t hear much about what’s happening in China’s Inner Mongolia region and the slow erosion of ethnic Mongolian identity that’s in full swing there under Xi Jinping. This story is a step toward showing that. It’s also a topic relevant to business executives and companies with ties to the area or to China more generally. https://lnkd.in/gn9Se4dE

In the Bi-Xi meeting, Xi's opening speech delivered more substance and clarity than the previous Chinese statements. Xi said, “China-US relations must be placed in the grander context of the century of change.” - implying “the rise of the East and the decline of the West.” “For two large powers, disengaging is inconceivable; coercing change on the other is unrealistic; and the outcome of confrontation will be unbearable.” This rejects the US's a-la-carte China policy of cooperation, competition, and confrontation. I think the best piece of Xi’s speech is that “competition should not be the underpinning of this era.” This fundamentally rejects the Hobbesian state of nature as the foundational principle of a modern global order. On the other hand, the central thesis of President Biden's speech is that “we don’t always agree, but we are always sincere.” “We look for cooperation on global challenges.” There's not much substance there. #China #geopolitics #bidenxi #APEC #ChinaUS

US/China. Where Xi Jinping is right, he is right: He noted that there are two options for China and the U.S.. One is to enhance solidarity and cooperation and join hands to meet global challenges and promote global security and prosperity. The other is to cling to the zero-sum mentality, provoke rivalry and confrontation, and drive the world toward turmoil and division. The two choices point to two different directions that will decide the future of humanity and Planet Earth.

Q: How do you know that something which has been stalled for decades will happen now? A: When President Xi Jinping says it will happen!
